How are vehicles like this even legal?

Windows so darkly tinted that other drivers cannot see the driver. Terribly unsafe in my opinion.

There are times (often emergency and/ or unexpected types of situations) when we, as drivers, need to see each other.

Oh, wait -- there are now driverless cars -- I guess it doesn't matter.

I had a postman open his door while I was driving by. I had to swerve to miss him.

I was driving my dads lorry down a main road in London some years ago.....a guy pulled up at the curb in a BMW and just flipped his door open fully...a girl riding on her bike hit the door and flew over it....she was in a real mess when she landed...:(

Fate has to be unpredictable.......how many misses in this situation before a dead center strike ocures...it could be even although it's not the first time that it's happened...It just goes to prove that our life on this planet is just a different kind of lottery game where it cost no money to play yet every one on this planet still plays it like it or not....:(

To inky on your original answer:
Yes, stuff like that is part of my point. I'd even go so far to say that if you had been able to see through the windows of that parked car, you might have possibly noticed that there was a person inside getting ready to get out. But with nothing to see but a parked car, yeah. (My thoughts are in addition to what the judge said. I'm glad you and the other driver are OK and that the judge judged in your favor.)
    :)

    Exactly.
When driving, I normally have my eyes scanning full time.
Since a driver may sometimes fail to signal, I watch for heads inside cars and which way they're looking.

It is illegal in NYC - not sure about the state.  Most of the cars I see like that have out of town plates.

    Thanks for answering, SpunkySenior.
I don't "see" (sort-of-a-pun intended, ha) why such darkly tinted windows over driver's windows would be legal anywhere. :)

I suspect they are legal in places like Florida, Arizona, etc. which are very sunny most of the time.  I use my sunglasses when it's very bright out, but sometimes they aren't dark enough.

Yeah, good point and you're right. And another mugger mentioned sunny climates, too, another time I talked about this somewhere on the site. I still find it dangerous to not be able to see the other drivers. But, like everything else, I need to pay attention because other things can cause challenges while driving -- and I hate when having to drive "into the sun" as it sets or rises, ha! :)

Yeah, I know. I can't remember what went goofy in my timing to get to work. I left a lot later than I should've. I got back from work just a little while ago.  I know I posted a couple of things after I said I was leaving for work.

Hey, I'm second guessing myself again -- I literally typed in some words in my first reply to you that I thought I was only "thinking" in my head. I have now removed the words. Sorry about that if you saw them. If you didn't, no loss; they were just anger with myself.

The winter is particularly difficult because the sun comes in at such a low angle in the morning and late afternoon.  Seems that no matter what you do, it's too bright.
