Which jobs or professions used to be looked down upon but in today’s times are revered, and vice-versa? ~

[EDIT]

By “today’s times”, I’m referring to modern times in general as opposed to 50, 75 or 100 years ago, not specifically to COVID19.

    Fast food restaurant workers.

    I've never understood why this job is sometimes looked down upon. I tried the job and miserably failed.

    And, perhaps, even now this job is not revered. I certainly revere anyone who can succeed at the job (and anyone who still has the job without getting fired in the first two weeks of employment).

    I think it isn't so much that the job is looked down upon as it is viewed more as a stepping stone to more financially rewarding employment.  It's honest work and I see it as a good job for high schoolers or college kids, but it's hard to keep body and soul together on minimum wage.

    Yes, I see your point and you're probably right. :) 
    Yet, I'm thinking, in comparison to others' incomes, I do sort of make by on little income.

    And I'm getting ready to answer again. I think I read too much into the question. :)

    In some neighborhoods here, drug dealers. They drive the best cars, wear fancy clothes and they have the prettiest girls. (By the way, I'm not joking. I have had students say so.)

    I'm answering again because, based upon the other answers, I believe I read too much into your question. Without your saying it, I interpreted "today's times" as "COVID-19 times."

    And, in that respect, I respect fast food restaurant workers (all restaurant workers) even more than I already did.
