He is POTUS....not sure how you get more important. You do not get elected President if you are stupid. Which is why Creepy Uncle Joe does not have a chance.

I think that whoever is going to vote for Biden will do so, no matter who is chosen as a running mate. And Trump supporters will vote for Trump, no matter what. (Even if, as he stated in 2016, he stood "in the middle of Fifth Avenue and shot someone").
Thank you for your analysis. My question refers specifically to opinions as to what people here think Biden might do when selecting his running mate, prioritize competence or prioritize demographics. As to what the voters do after the ticket is set, that's a separate issue. I do agree with you partially that those who decide to vote for him will do so regardless of his running mate, because many are already staunch in giving or withholding their support of him based on who he selects. There are some people who are so set in their positions that the running mate might be a make-or-break decision. With over 300 million people in this country, those who are registered and eligible on election day may do like you you say and vote for their particular candidate no matter what, and some may vote with their feet. ~
I don't think Biden will select his own running mate, I think he/she will be chosen for him. I think that social demographics will be given more priority than competency. Undoubtedly, there are a plethora of candidates that would check both boxes. I like what I know of Stacey Abrams. I think Cory Booker is fantastic.
Joe might be old and maybe not so bold BUT what Joe DOES have that people overlook is experience.
I like to look at it this way. If I were building a house, or a country on a larger scale, would I rather the person who had been through trials and tribulations, personally, glories and celebrations shared by his team with an outstanding product to prove it, or a guy who knows how to push buttons and play war games? hands-on-experience or taught sequences to build a country? Experience and wisdom over a pup, every time.
