Have you noticed that some folks post questions spouting off on serious issues when they have few or no facts and little solid information?

While they apparently know little about the topic, they wear their biased agendas right next to their hearts on their sleeves. And it's a waste of breath to counter their assertions with actual, you know, facts, because they seemingly don't listen and never respond.

I know, right?  I wish I actually knew something about English grammar.

It's like that in real life as well.

Check this out: So, I was in a bar a few years ago. And the night was going good until I encountered a complete moron in the restroom. To cut a long story short, the soap dispenser was empty. So, as it was not possible to wash my hands, I decided I would return to my seat in the bar and use the hand sanitizer from my wife's purse. But, as I was attempting to leave the restroom, this moron decided to check me for not washing my hands. The dialogue went something like this:

    Moron: "Hey!"

    *I turn around*

    Me: "What's up?"

    *he points at me*

Moron: "Are you not going to wash your hands?"

    Me: "It's not possible!"

    *he looks confused*

    *I point to the dispenser*

Me: "There's no soap! You can't wash your hands without soap."

*he points towards another guy who was then rinsing his hands in the basin*  (it's the only sink in the restroom)

Moron: "But, he's washing his hands!"

Me: "No, he isn't washing his hands".

*his confused face is even more confused*

Moron: "So, if he isn't washing his hands, what is he doing then?"

    Me: "He's just wetting them"

    *other people start chuckling*

*moron is looking a little angry with enlightenment"

*I turn around and gently kick the door open with the tip of my shoe*

Maybe, but I think he was trying to call me out for being a dirty so-and-so in front of his buddies. Some people are like that after a few beers.

Or you could have just ignored him and kept walking.

    Yes, I could have.

But, as I'm usually very conscientious about my hand hygiene, and very meticulous about how I do it, I felt I had to stop and speak up.

I get Stu Spelling Bee's point, too but I also admire your sticking up for yourself.

Unfortunately, the brain is hard wired to react with emotions much faster than it can think.

It takes training to inhibit first responses, listen, gather info from legit sources, and evaluate.

So there will always be more people who react from their biases than people who investigate.

  • Yes, some people do that. Not me. I will argue for days on end and never stop providing sources to back up those arguments. :)

There's a lot of that going around here and I've learned that there's no changing these knuckleheads.
