I forgot about them :) they were one of my favourites when I was a kid. I’m going on a YouTube binge of them now :)

I first heard them as a young adult. I think you had great taste in music to enjoy them as a kid. :)
I hope you enjoyed your Crash Test Dummies binge. I go on those binges rather often. :)
The first song I heard from them was "Superman's Song." Like "Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm," the song is superlative to me. And both songs have great music videos, especially when one really listens to the song lyrics. :)
For instance, with "Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm," (and in no particular order) : :)
* The casting of everyone in the video - everyone 'performs' very well to me * The song's "architecture," so to speak -- the lyrics of the song -- three unrelated life scenarios of children are shared - - and then the singer just says, "Mmm mmm mmm mmm" -- the listener needs to actively participate and provide an explanation/meaning to the song - - we don't get the "moral of the story" thrust down our throats over and over. It's a very intelligent approach to me. It's respectful to the listener. The songwriter expects the listener to engage. (And the music video itself keeps with that approach -- we observe the lyrics come to life; though, in the case of the third scenario, the video helps us a bit in providing a possible interpretation.) * Having the music video set as an elementary school stage production with the Crash Test Dummies in the pit is very effective to me - and again, the band is just there sharing the scenarios, with some interesting and potentially meaningful-but-subtle facial expressions from lead singer Brad Roberts through the video. And incredibly-appealing-and-honest/authentic-to-me smiles from the female pianist and blond male guitarist.
"Superman's Song" * The lyrics of "Superman's Song" -- comparing and contrasting the lives of Superman and Tarzan. Unique. And I find the lyrics accurate in many ways. * and the music is set at Superman's funeral with other super heroes attending the service. And Crash Test Dummies are there providing the music. And though I am not at all into all the Marvel and super hero movies, I believe this music video (adn song) were created before the bombardment of blockbuster super hero movies.
* I also find both "Superman's Song" and "Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm" superlative in their very, very understated musical approach - both are very quiet and very acoustic-sounding to me, not overly produced.
Those are just some of the reasons for me. And I realize it's all subjective, ha! :) I know of many who find the band annoying (and Weird Al parodied at least one of the songs, ha! I like him, too, though.)
Life is so crazy busy right now, work especially. I really need to find someone to help me do my work, but I'm too busy to find and train someone! Sigh.
