Discussion»Questions»Human Behavior» Besides the physical limitations of your gender (men don't give birth) does your gender limit you? In what way(s)?
Yes it does. Women earn only 75% of what men do for the exact same job. Women are sexually abused at work disproportionately to men. Women are still viewed as incapable by certain employers.
So yes, it does limit me, because society imposes those limits upon me.
Are there no exceptions? Perhaps what you say is true ON AVERAGE but why would that prevent you from being above-average and one of the exceptions? Don't we often limit ourselves by our mindsets and our attitudes? Thank you for your reply ISS.
Doesn't "on average" matter? Even if I WAS an exception, I would still be earning less than an equally exceptional man. Averages do matter. I never said I limit myself. My motto is even "They say the sky's the limit--I see no reason to limit myself." It's just that I have no control over how much I get paid, workplace politics, and how society treats me. I can be the most exceptional person in the world and this would hold equally true.
I don't feel limited, just need to work a little harder at things that probably come easier to others than to me. I didn't get a 4 year degree in my field. That was one part choice and one part financial. I've managed to work my way up in spite of that (although they want me to go back and finish school). From a gender perspective, I'm cognizant of the fact emotional intelligence is more important for me than men.
