What's the difference between cold brew iced tea bags and regular iced tea bags?

Lipton makes both varieties. They look identical and have identical ingredients but it says the cold brew variety is made differently.

I have no idea.. .we don't have such fancy stuff in the UK :P Oh ok we have something relatively new, a fruit infusion type teabag that can be used in cold water to provide a kind of alternative to plain water.

Weird. Are the fruit teabags taking off there? Seems to me like they wouldn't with you guys being staunch traditionalists and all... speaking of which, do you even have iced tea???

Indeed we do not have iced tea! Perish the thought! It would be almost akin to blasphemy to drink that here! Herbal and fruit warm teas are fairly popular here, indeed my good-self drinks those regularly.. But cold fruit and herbal tea? It's deviant I tell you!

I can only guess that cold brew is ground finer or more pungent leaves are used...maybe more mature.  However, black tea should only be brewed with boiling water.  The leaves can have a bacteria on them as well as the waste left by bugs that live on them.  That advice came from an executive at Lipton. What about the pesticides? I'm less concerned about bacteria and bug waste than I am pesticides, to be honest.

If the tea is GMO you can do nothing to mitigate that.  If it's organic you don't have to worry about it. In either case brew with boiling water.  The possible illness is like food poisoning.....stomach cramps, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, dehydration.   I rarely buy tea since about 2013 so I don't know what is currently on the market shelves.

If you put it in the sun, UV light will kill all the critters. Do you get much sun there?

As with many other things...marketing. The difference they talk about is the size of the bag.

When you use regular tea bags and hot water your forcefully extracting the flavor out of the tea leaves, it's just a slower process with cold brewed tea bags.

And how old are you? Ridiculous. I will repeat what I said, since it was deleted along with the entire thread.

It’s not cute, nor funny and it’s especially rude when someone is new to a site and is still getting to know the personalities here. I’m sure some of the regulars get sick of constantly having their auto corrects and typos pointed out to them too, most people come here for fun or while doing other things, like work or other sites. So spelling and grammar are not our top priority, it’s annoying but we put up with it.  If I was a new member and getting corrected in public by someone I don’t know, in front of others I don’t know.. I wouldn’t bother with settling in with this place at all.

  • Probably next to nothing.  The tea portions for cold brew vs. regular might be a little different but other than that I couldn't imagine.  You can cold brew any kind of tea.

You weren’t happy enough having started the Sour Cream War, you just insist on branching out to a Tea War?
