You’ve brought up a very good and completely appropriate point here, SpunkySenior, “respect”.  It would be a refreshing change from the childishness of the name-calling, the hatefulness of shameful attacks, the immaturity of the mud-slinging, and the lowliness of the outright lies that some members stoop to just to advance their positions.

People are free to express their opinions.  If they are within TOS, they get to post what they like.  Those who don't agree with them are free to scroll past their questions.

Yes, and in addition to scrolling past, anyone who disagrees with something also has the right to respectfully respond.

Absolutely yes. But, they should also be prepared to be challenged if their views contain misperceptions about American laws, the Constitution or our culture.

It seems a few 'foreigners' here know more than many Americans.

Yep  I bet that not many Americans  know that Nanoose Bay saves the US Navy  millions of dollars a year in torpedo recovery cost. We rent out part of our millItaly basel to America and they do torpedo and guidence testing there and because Nanoose Bay has ideal sea bed conditions that can only be found in a few places around the World it saves the US Navy lots of money in recovery cost. Cheers! This post was edited by Nanoose at September 9, 2020 10:45 AM MDT

I didn't know that, but I'll bet many Canadians don't either.

Agreed. But I can think of a couple who don't know nearly as much as they think they do.

I agree that anyone should be prepared to have their opinions challenged. My issue is someone saying “there’s a name for “foreigners” who think they have any opinion here” I found it rude and insulting, even though I wasn’t one of the “foreigners” in the thread.

I didn't see that thread, and I agree that it is rude and insulting. I was referring to rude and insulting posts from people who think they know what's best for the US without any firsthand knowledge.

Understand your point on that, I would find it obnoxious too.

  • Foreigners should absolutely be allowed to have and voice their opinions on this site, but I usually stay quiet about US politics on American sites.  The unspoken rule is that a foreigner who agrees with OP's opinion is more intelligent than Americans, and is more educated about the US than Americans.  A foreigner who disagrees with OP's opinion is a dumb foreigner who must stay quiet about US politics because they don't understand the US.

  • I guess I'll give a mature response since someone already posted a Foreigner video.   Obviously everyone should be able to voice their opinion...it's a shame some people are not able to get past the fact that as humans we are all different. Imagine if we all shared the same thoughts?  Boring.

Well, I certainly admire (respect) the way Joan Crawford (born San Antonio, TX--1904) identified the quality of those women she apparently found to be lacking in whatever quality they should have been in possession of.

Personally, I would never refer to my two female rescue dogs that way.

should have been in possession of possessed.

Good, vigorous writing signifies a sharp mind and is concise. A sentence should contain no unnecessary words...for the same reason that a drawing should have no unnecessary lines and a machine no unnecessary parts.

You can improve your writing by reading "The Elements of Style" written by old Cornell prof William Strunk and revised by his one-time student, EB White. A quick but helpful read.
