A boy I grew up with came home from Vietnam addicted to heroin.  He was killed in a drug buy that went bad.

Friend of mine was murdered in her room  by her 'friend' the $5000 cash she was carrying with her.

Quite a few actually over the years and fair number of suicides as well.

Many---but fortunately no one that I knew personally....I enjoy various crime shows because they demonstrate the logical steps required to come to the correct conclusions that reflect the reality that exists.

 About twenty years ago, our neighbors from across the street, a retired US Navy submariner and his wife, had their adult daughter and their son-in-law move in with them for economic/financial reasons. The son-in-law began attending college, some of his classes were at night. One evening as he was leaving the campus to go home, he was in the parking lot and was shot dead as he unlocked his car door. The killer or killers were never caught.

Years ago I had a friend I talked quite regularly with online who was killed by her husband that completely snapped.  Killed her and then killed himself right in front of their daughter. 

Sadly yes.  The mother of a friend in HS was died under murky circumstance. The Cops attributed her death to "Foul Play"  She was found in 2 feet of water off a boat dock with marks of a struggle on her body. That said it could have been an accident - she was part of a Swingers Group that was heavily into BDSM, and she had been drinking heavily
