What are some other “fighting words”?
Sayings, expressions, adages, quotes, or phrases that either start a fight, signal that a fight is on, or egg someone on to fight?

Pretty much anything said with raised volume, speed, and stress in the tone of voice.
It takes conscious effort to stay calm when that change signals that the other person has moved into fight mode.

Today, on our way home, ABC radio discusses Carmen Miranda.
Husband remarks, "I saw her sing live in a circus tent when I was a boy of ten in Israel."
I say, "That's impossible. She lived in Brazil and the USA, and travelled to Europe but never visited Israel, and she never sang or danced in a circus."
Husband's voice becomes louder and faster. His hands tense on the steering wheel. "How can you possibly know? You weren't there."
I feel irritated by his apparent belief that a fantasy (or decontextualized snippet of memory) is a reality and his inability to distinguish between them, or even see the importance in the difference.
I'm do my best to stay calm and try for a guess at a possible explanation for the discrepancy.
"I think you may have some vague memory of something - maybe it's someone in a Hollywood movie, perhaps there's a scene under a bigtop, and maybe some actress is imitating Miranda - but I swear you could not actually have seen Miranda live in Israel."
"How dare you try to tell me what's in my head!" At this point his voice is almost at shouting pitch.
I partially back down. "OK, have it your own way, but I challenge you to look up her life on the net when we get home."
    "I bloody well will!"
Silence for the rest of the journey.
A few minutes after we get home, he's looks it up and tells me I was right. His tone is miffed; he doesn't like it one bit.
I say, "thanks for the willingness to check it out," and what might have become an awful argument has blown over.
    Phew!!! The relief is incredible.
But what I've long known about how his memory works has had another detail filled in, and I don't like the implications.
I have to live with it, and I need to learn better patience and alternative strategies for coping.
