1 800 000 0000 or 1-800-000-0000 or 1.800.000.000?

Don’t you find it kind of cool to use periods (full stops) in phone numbers in place of dashes and/or spaces?
[DISCLAIMER: I do not.]

A tidley is a dash with a curl making it look tidly.
'Make it look tidley'  means to fancy something up a bit.

I’m sure it must be a Canadian thing. I’m no longer legally allowed to cross the northern border of the US, I think my ex had something to do with it. Grrrrrrr.

It's a word from the HMCS Navy which came from the HMS Navy.
Doing tidly work around the ship like adding decorative ropework in suitable places.

Actually I just thought I'd just say tidlies instead of tildes just for the fun of it.

When I type my phone number, I do so in the format that is given. It is usually hyphens, but it makes no difference to me.

As a general rule, I use hyphens.  The periods are used a lot in Europe.

I have always written telephone numbers (800)768-9010 or 800-768-9010.  People started using periods because it's easy on a keyboard.  The - is one of those keys that many of us eyeball before striking.  In other words, as the keyboard became more and more prevalent, the more we saw periods used in phone numbers.  Of course, we AT&T folks were appalled at the blasphemy. I have to put a plus sign followed by the country code, then all the numbers together no dashes, dots or spaces. For personal I use dashes.
