How come we rarely discuss sports around here?

So...

How about that ball, huh? It went really far.

Did you see it?

... I saw it. I was like "yeah!"

Really far and hard.

And the other team was like "no!" But we're better.

I wasn't finished with my big reply which was my fault in the first place. Then I get this antithetical dread thing! All I'm saying is sports buffs are anti-inimical to the artists interests! I hate these anti-classicist silly guys. This post was edited by CosmicWunderkind at February 25, 2021 7:13 AM MST

Ha, you made me look up "inimical:" "unfriendly; hostile." Is being anti-inimical a hostility to unfriendliness?

I know very little about sports to be able to even discuss. And I have not much interest in sports, either.
I was, though, a very fast sprinter, and several-records holder, on the school track-and-field teams, so, I was interested in sports to that extent. :)

So you like what you found yourself kicking ass in. Fair enough! Shame you never tried out for the WWE - Welby's World of Entertainment.

Even though I sort of kicked ass, I really didn't even like sport that well, either. I just enjoyed being on the team and getting to know peers whom I would otherwise not have gotten to know. I always had a very natural gift to run fast without really trying  too hard -- really.  When I was about 12, I was selected by my phys ed class teacher to compete in a community track and field event with other schools in the area.
In this particular sprint, I got so far ahead of the others so quickly that I literally stopped, and waited for them to catch up, to have more fun running with others.

Yeah, I was strange even at a younger age, too, ha.

    That's brilliant, haha.

And now I know why you dislike Forrest Gump!

    :) Thanks, Danilo_G!

Gump - - do you mean the "Run, Forrest, Run" part? Other than Sally Field's too-short part, I've tried to erase that entire irritating-to-me movie from my mind, along with Hanks' annoying-to-me performance, ha!

I do remember at that part in the movie I was thinking "Stop, Forrest, Stop! Please. Stop. End this movie."

    :)

I’ve posted a few sports-related questions and largely got crickets chirping as an overall response. As such, I’m quite interested in both your post and in any of the answers.

I didn't even realise there was such a thing as competitive cricket-chirping. Then again, if curling is a sport... I'm sure which one I prefer.

EDIT: I may have spoken too soon.

I know you can imagine someone delivering a sandwich on that thing; sweeping while they're at it; and not even complaining about the thermostat. This post was edited by Danilo_G at February 26, 2021 5:27 PM MST

    You're just on fire, Danilo!

I think curling is inexplicably fascinating.

Honestly, there really is something about it. I won't badmouth curling again ;)

... Didn't expect this discussion to lead to that particular epiphany.

There really is. It's probably the rare opportunity to view it and the idea that it's like bowling - many of us could actually curl (however poorly). Compare that to Olympic ice skating or skiing. Haha!

    LOL!

I don't think many here watch much sports.

I have asked one or two about football and did not get much response.

I know Rosie likes tennis and Starti likes rugby/cricket or something that is not really big in US. Thriftymaid likes college football.

Ah, and I really only follow the soccer kind of football...

'Tis the virtue of a true sports fan to have no interest in most other sports.

For some.   My Dad follows everything. (American sports)
Football, basketball, baseball, golf, Nascar, tennis, the Olympics...

This is so great and funny. Love it!

I like basketball and I can half-watch hockey and football.

I knew it - you're still hoping I'm Danilo Gallinari, aren't you? Well, we'll have to make do!

Have you heard the one where a kid wants to stay up late to watch a game, and the parent says "you can watch one half"?

... So the kid picks the second half.

OMG, I'd forgotten about that! Hahaha! Wait, why am I laughing?? It's not good at all that I'd temporarily forgotten, is it? :(

That's a good one! I love dad jokes!

Are you kidding - I'd love to forget every dumb joke I've heard, haha. With luck, I'll be eighty someday, cracking up at why the chicken crossed the road.
