We were in The Keys in Florida with a bunch of people who were scuba divers. It was August and I was six months pregnant. The camp ground was a treeless piece of land. We were in a tent. The bathrooms/showers were quite a hike from our spot. I thought I would die, and think I came close. I was not a scuba diver, hubs was. The scuba event was for about five or six days. When it was over a friend showed us a much better place to camp and it was free. We put the tent in grass right on the beach. There were trees and a strong breeze that never stopped. Blue crabs were everywhere. Some people moved in right next to us in an RV. With air conditioning. We quickly became acquainted and I knew I was going to survive. The guys brought in a bunch of lobster and I remember grilling them and thinking it was close to the best thing I'd ever tasted.
I met a girlfriend. Her family was moving from CA to WA, and staying at the same campground as my church group, in the space across from mine. We hit it off, and found out we would be going to the same school. Unfortunately, her family moved again after a few months.
I later found out her mom was "on the run" from her dad and his relatives, and lost track of them after a couple more moves.
As a young child, I enjoyed making friends with other children who were camping and really can't remember not enjoying most everything about it. Fishing, exploring, climbing trees, all of that.
As a teen, something along the lines of what El said.
As a mother, sharing all of what I enjoyed so much as a child with my own children.
To be continued..... I hope!
