Are you allowed to keep an amputated limb if you plan and ask in advance?

    Yes.  That way you (or your ex, depending on which "limb" it is) can hang it over the mantle as a memento.

    This September, I'm getting a shoulder and part of my humerus replaced. Maybe I'll ask the surgeon if I could have what he cuts out.
