Is the smoke from the western wildfires affecting your region of the country?

The haze overhead is partially obscuring the sun here.

I live in NYC.  The air here is rarely excellent, but I don't believe it's due to the fires out west.

UPDATE:  The weather report at 6 PM yesterday said we an expect the smoke from the fires to start wending it's way towards us today.  The air quality is poor and we have an air quality alert. This post was edited by SpunkySenior at July 20, 2021 8:23 AM MDT

I believe I am correct.  The way belonging to it is "it's." This post was edited by SpunkySenior at July 22, 2021 7:39 AM MDT

With the apostrophe, it is a contradiction of two separate words, which in the context of your sentence, does not make any sense at all. When the contraction is broken down and the apostrophe removed:

    it is
    it has

    . . . wending it is way . . .
    . . . wending it has way . . .

Therefore, the only proper, correct, and appropriate word for this situation is the possessive pronoun its, because the action of wending is being carried out by the smoke.

Thank you, I have learned a new word and I stand corrected.

Not yet but last summer it had gotten pretty hazy from the wildfire smoke.

Smoke from BC fires is blocking the sun here. At about 7 am the headlights on cars with automatic lights were on.

Yes, since I am in the western portion of the country.  When the winds push the low and mid-level smoke east, I can see the smoke plume from the Dixie fire.

Not so far but that could change. It got pretty bad here last year. Cheers!

  • I'm right near the wildfires but the air is excellent here in Sacramento today. It must be blowing east. This post was edited by Benedict Arnold at July 20, 2021 6:09 AM MDT

Nope.  All that Gulf air is dispensing it.  Been sunny.

The pic, although not from here, looks like our sky the past few days.

UPDATE:  This is what NYC looked like yesterday due to the western fires.

We also had an air quality advisory and today's air quality is poor.

The air quality here in Michigan is good. But I don't know how long that will last.
