What are some trite and cliché wrong things people say to others when a loved one has died?

[Examples:
“It’s better this way.”
“There’s no rhyme or reason.”
“I know exactly how you feel.”

He/she is in a better place. Also this one that a dying friend said and has stuck with me for more than 25 years, "I'm tired and I'm gonna rest." Rest for what?

    "It will get easier."
It doesn't. My mother passed more than six years ago, the wound in my heart is still bleeding.

Did you have lots of life insurance coverage?

Can you pay me the $200 that bum owes me?

Since you don't drive can I have the car?

Time and experience helps move us through, if we're able to be moved.

I overheard a highly regarded member of the "Fellowship of Christian Athletes" state that it was too bad she wasn't going to heaven at a friend's funeral.

Other than being mean or judgmental, I don't really think of these expressions as "wrong". More misguided and an example of having no desire to learn differently.

"They are in a better place."

    How do you know?
Also, if Heaven was all that great - why did so many angels rebel?

    ---

"At least their suffering is over."

    Again, how do you know?
If they went to Hell, their suffering increased - didn't it?

    ---

"What are you going to do with all this food?"

Seriously, heard that asked at a wake by someone wanting to take the leftovers.
