Probably the US Dept. of Defense: San Diego has not only a large presence of active duty military personnel, it also has thousands of civilian personnel and contractors who are its employees.

Where I live ... probably the lumber industry, if you take into account everybody employed from harvest through production and shipping.

Government. Approximately 1,443,500 people in New York work for the federal, New York State, and New York City governments. You haven't seen bureaucracy unless you come here.

Unless you own property and profit from our economy. There are reasons for higher property values in some areas than in others.

They've gotten fancy. It was plain old Yale-New Haven Hospital when I went to school there and had a housemate who was a medical student.

In my county, the manufacturing sector employs the most people, which is 466 people or 19.1% of the county’s workforce.  I couldn’t find any other data.

((((Approximately how far are those headquarters from where you live? Nothing specific, just narrow it down the the nearest ten feet or the nearest ten meters, that’s all. Thank you in advance.)))))

It used to be the automotive sector, the Holden plant is a loud shout from here - then GM shut Holden down and the area went from moderately down-at-heel to downright depressed, the closure of Holden dragged the supporting companies (Bridgestone tires, Monroe shock absorbers etc) down with it.
    It's probably retail now.

The University and Colleges are important to the local economy and are probably big employers, but I would hazard a guess that the biggest private sector employers are mechanical engineering (including aircraft and car parts) and chemicals. Forty or fifty years ago it would have been textiles, but that sector has shrunk dramatically over the last few decades - one of the main features of the urban landscape is all the abandoned or under-occupied multi-storey mill buildings. A few fabric and yarn manufacturers have survived by specialising or focussing or luxury products. Taylor and Lodge, based in Lockwood, Huddersfield, produced the fabric for a suit worn by Daniel Craig in Quantum of Solace. A succession of US Presidents (Clinton and both Bushes), have worn suits made of fabric produced by Scabal, who also have a factory in that area.
