Do you live near a hill that is good for sledding and tobogganing? Have you tried going downhill standing on the toboggan?

I always fell when I tried going downhill standing up.

I live near a few of them.
When I was growing up, the city would close off a few of the uphill streets when there was enough snow ... and naturally, those streets would become sledding runs for kids and adults.

That all looks like a fine place to live.

But not a lot of places for sledding except, perhaps, in Prospect Park. I went ice skating as a child at a rink there.

Oh, yeah!  The road in front of my house is perfect for sledding.

I have plenty of snow but no hills nearby.

It’s the exact opposite here: there are plenty of hills but never any snow.

Not anymore.  I used to live near a golf course with huge hills.  The kids and I always had a ball when it snowed.

My answer is the exact opposite of Livvie’s answer above: there are plenty of hills here, but never any snow.

  • I own skis, but I don't own a sled or a toboggan.  My city has had only two snowstorms in its history.  If another snowstorm happens, I could ski down my street.  My block is on a hill.  It's not a steep hill.  I calculated 2,5% grade using Google Maps.  I think I would be safe skiing on my street.  No people would be driving because my city has no snowplows.

I live on a hillside but it's too gentle for downhill tobogganing.

Besides, sufficient snow falling and lying for long enough is rather rare here!
