Yup. True disasters and true crime. People are surprised I'm drawn to such things because I come across as very happy-go-lucky/funny type of person; people tell me they feel good around me because they have a good time with me and they always laugh at me (in a good way). But have always been drawn to the stories behind disasters and tragedies.
I totally get it. I have some unusual fascinations, too. ;) I just watched a documentary about this cult that settled in Oregon in the 1980s and it was crazy! I totally binge-watched all 6 episodes. It's called 'Wild, Wild Country'. I can't remember if it was Hulu or Netflix. Very interesting story and characters; I enjoyed it. I marveled that I have no recollection of having heard about the story at the time it occurred!
The cult sounds like something that would intrigue me. I'm thinking I may have heard a bit about it. And I could have added the Jim Jones story to my original answer, too. It's interesting to me that before the tragic cult stuff he did some really admirable things.

Yeah, seems like we've talked about cults a time or two, maybe?
Yeah, I wonder if Jones really bought what he was selling with his civil rights work or if he just realized how much he could use and manipulate people by selling himself off as a loving liberal Christian? In the end, a large number of his victim followers, those living essentially as slaves, were Black.
You know... this is somehow making me think of a guy who sold himself off as a patriotic, pro-life Christian in order to use and manipulate people into voting him president!
