EXCLUDING bad manners, what is an eating habit you display that is weird, strange, odd, funny, or quirky?

All my life, I’ve been a slow eater. It’s not uncommon when I’m eating something at the same time as others that I often finish last. This is true whether or not it’s one other person or many other people, and the type or kind of food hardly matters either, and sometimes even non-comparative portion sizes make little difference. It’s not an intentional nor conscious act on my part.

I "dislike" it when foods touch each other.

Thanks for answering, that’s a perfect example. There are a lot of people who share your aversion.

I like to mix the foods together, and I eat fast. The fast eating came from the Navy. We had to as we only got 40 minutes, much of that standing in line. That changed, of course, when I became a CPO. We had our own dining area, short lines and we could take as long as we wanted. I am surprised you didn't eat fast when you were aboard ships.

Not only aboard ship, but especially in boot camp were we required to eat fast due to time constraints. Even then, when I had to eat faster than I had been accustomed to eating, I was still a bit  slower than the others around me.

    Good for you, though.
Fast eating is a common cause of GERT and other digestive disorders.
I've had to force myself to eat slower, due to my doctor's advice because of acid reflux issues.

    Personally, I wouldn't say it's a "habit" ... more of an "inclination".
I like ordering different things off the menu than what I've had previously.
It annoys my friend - who has to order the same thing, every time, from whatever restaurant we are at.

I smell everything before I eat or drink it.
I always smash my sandwich or any sort of bread before I eat it.

    :)

I'm assuming you don't smash a sandwich so hard that the innards fall out. I'd think smelling everything helps you better enjoy the food and drink.

No, I do not make anything fall out. The bread just takes better after it is smashed.

I do not mean just smelling it because it is in the air.
I purposely smell it.  I know not everyone does it because I have had more than one person look at me funny and ask if I just smelled my food.

  • I confess that I eat all of my food in order.  I brought home food from Subway last night so I ate the sandwich first, then the potato chips, then I ate the cookie.  My confession about drinking is that I drink from the faucet without using a glass.  My brother does the same thing.

      Lol!

You’ve reminded me of another one of mine: I never eat hard ice cream. It has to be melted, at least a little bit. As a kid, I always used to let my ice cream sit for a while before I started to eat it. Microwave ovens came out when I was in my preteen years or early teens, but of course we didn’t get one at home until a couple of years later. Once I had more access to microwave ovens, I developed a lifelong habit of an 11-second or 14-second run for ice cream. I don’t know how I came up with those time limits, but they’ve stuck with me for decades.
