    If it takes place at all, I believe it will happen before 12/31/22.  If the Western Alliance remains strong, Putin has a lot to lose if he invades Ukraine, especially if Germany holds strong about the pipeline issue.  If the Alliance crumbles, that will be a sign for both China and Russia to take over any country that is weaker that they choose.  That does not bode well for democracy in the West or anywhere else.     I doubt it will happen at all. If it does, it would prove that Russia learned absolutely nothing in Afghanistan.

      In some ways (and especially if certain news sources are giving accurate information), the first few months of this have proven unexpectedly quite deadly for the invading Russians. Serves them right too.
