EDIT: I posted last night after a very long day - - I've since remembered that Randy D and are the only two humans who find the movie did not live up to its hype. See Randy D's reply to me here for a well-said summation  :)

He and I have previously discussed our reaction to the movie.

Be glad they haven't made the sequel book into a movie.
It seems the only reason it was made is because the movie was so popular, but the author's heart wasn't in it.

I never read the first book, either.  :)

I just saw it for the first time last month and I liked it. Interesting.

I sometimes wonder if I'd like it if I watched it again.
Like Randy D said, it didn't come even close to the hype for me.

I admit I had a grudge -- I had also seen "What's Eating Gilbert Grape" at about the same time I saw "Forrest Gump" - - and I thought young Leonardo DiCaprio was MUCH more believable in his role and wondered why everyone wasn't raving about his performance as they did for Hanks.

And I really liked Sally Field in the Forrest movie.

I immediately thought of a group I like --  Level 42.  :)

In Douglas Adams' The HitchHiker's Guide to the Galaxy, the megacomputer Deep Thought calculated that the Answer to the ultimate question of life, the universe and everything was in fact 42 ... so an even bigger, more powerful computer had to be built to determine what the actual Question was.
