  • The weirdest thing I was asked to prove was that there was a direct flight from Buenos Aires (EZE) to Auckland (AKL). Livvie sent me a link to a website that made a claim that she wanted me to debunk. The claim was that Earth is flat and South America is close to being on the opposite edge of the world as Australia and New Zealand. The flat Earth believer's conclusion was that direct flights from South America to Australia or New Zealand don't exist.

    There was a direct flight from Buenos Aires to Auckland before COVID. Baggage was loaded onto the plane. People boarded the plane. The plane left the gate. My last boyfriend was from Australia. He flew direct from Sydney to Santiago without any stops in the northern hemisphere, then he flew from Santiago to Buenos Aires.       I had to don my commerce inspector’s role and prove that the shipments of liquified guacamole extract were being prepped for smugglers to get past the recent embargo and sneak them into the US. Grrrrrrrrrrr.

    Well, I'm sure that worked.  My long-time doctor back home used to explain meds by drawing a molecule.  He was such a hoot, and a genius.  He had a practice, did research at a university and taught classes at the med school there.  I've not found a doctor I liked so much since I left my home town in 2010.   I specifically remember him drawing a molecule to show me the difference between Prilosec and Nexium.

      It’s a reference to what is said when one party challenges another party to a duel. There’s also the gesture of slapping the opponent with one’s glove while issuing the challenge.
