How do you feel about Will Smith smacking Chris Rock during the Oscars?

Rock made a joke about Smith's wife's shaved head saying he looked forward to "GI Jane 2."

Jada Smith has a disease causing hair loss.   Will walked up and smacked Rock on live TV and told him to "Keep my wife's name out of your f****** mouth!"

I cannot post video as it has cursing.

Do believe it was fake to create some kind of interest in the Oscars.  The Oscars has become nothing more than a self serving political rally.  It has nothing to do with the best picture etc.  The public does not care anymore, it's too late for Hollywood.

I would think if it was for attention they would have done something before to get people to watch.
I still will not be watching.

I watched it and it looks real. I figure Smith could of done a little better then a slap it should of been a closed fisted back hand to make sure Rock would never say something like that again. Cheers!

I kind of thought he should have punched him as well.

If it was staged, I wouldn’t care.  If it wasn’t staged, then it just doesn’t make any sense, so I kind of think it was staged.

I don't think it was staged. It made me like Smith more for taking up for his wife.

But still will not be watching any of the award shows.

That’s something that doesn’t make sense.  Will Smith has been trained in how to throw a punch because it’s part of his job to do fight scenes in movies.  I’d have an easier time believing it was natural and unscripted if Will Smith just would’ve walked up there and decked Chris Rock.  I didn’t watch the Oscars on TV last night, so I’ve only seen the online videos.  The whole thing just looks like there’s something off about it.

I did not watch it either. I have only watched the video on TMZ.  They had the uncensored video from one of the foreign channels. (There was a translator in it) ABC In US cut the sound and turned up the music.

I don't care about that any more than they care about what happens in my life.

Big ugly monster snob job Will Smith. What a jackass macho show of wrongness on his part Will. Chris is okay. Will Smith damaged his career. He might admit it himself with his violence is okay hospital call. What if?
Rock's probability of death or serious injury from the blow was almost certainly slim. But it was possible. This post was edited by CosmicWunderkind at June 9, 2022 7:03 AM MDT

Rock dishonored Smith's wife. I might have done the same. They only showed her once, briefly, but the look on her face made me mad.

I was in a tavern with my soon-to-be wife and some punk came in selling bootleg DVDs. My girl asked to see a few, but when she gave them back, the kid told her she stole one. I gave him a nasty look and said "You calling her a thief?" He got out of there pronto and never returned.

I agree.  And was a little aggregated when I heard Smith apologized.

I feel good, thanks for asking!

It seemed like a joke that boiled over with pent-up frustration. I don't blame Will for getting fed up with the whole procedure of "sitting there smiling while somebody insults your family in a room already bursting with pretense." If it had been Jada who provided the slap, I'm sure she would have received an ovation.

I just heard that Will Smith resigned from the actors academy because he regretted what he had done.  And I think that kind of proves that it wasn't staged - if it was staged they would of milked it for all it was worth. Cheers and happy weekend!

I think they both made poor choices. I suspect Smith's regret and remorse are sincere. I think Rock's joke was in poor taste, but physical violence is unacceptable.
