Well I wouldn't call paying a bit extra taxes to prevent  gun murders  and to insure free health care to everyone ridiculous and neither does almost all of the other wealthy countries in the world. This post was edited by Nanoose at July 19, 2022 7:29 PM MDT

It must be that simple that's why almost all the wealthy Countries in the world  do it.

I live my life, which I and my family can control. It’s not worth harping on what a nation does as a whole since that is beyond any individual’s control.

Good for you. Since you don’t concern yourself with harping on about all of your nations issues, why  are you harping on about about the taxes in Canada?

I only mentioned it once in response to Nanoose. That's not harping, eh.

And NY is higher than most places in USA.

And NY with NYC tax rates (highest paying 13+%, average likely paying 10+) are higher than Canada province rates.

And depending on what income bracket you are in the Fed tax rate maybe higher or lower in CA vs USA.

Why are you telling me this? Do I set tax rates? But it is important to bear in mind that NYC encompasses five counties, whereas other cities are within and subsidized by one county. Also, NYC's budget is orders of magnitude larger than that of almost every other state and city. The only ones bigger are the federal, California, and New York state. So comparing NYC budget and income tax rates is not apples to apples with other cities.

    You complained about CA taxes...
I found that ironic coming from someone who lives in a state that where he likely pays more in income tax than in Canada.

The comparison was between NYC and the Country of Canada.  This post was edited by my2cents at July 20, 2022 4:32 PM MDT

I don’t have any complaints about Canadian taxes since I don’t pay them. I was just pointing out that they’re higher than ours in the US to pay for all the “free” stuff up there.

You did complain about them above.
But as I just showed...in NYC you are likely paying more than a person in Canada.

I have met hundreds of people who have committed a felony during my years volunteering, but I don't actually "know" anyone.
