Wait, did you just hire me to do a job? This is great! We’ll be in constant contact with each other, I’ll have to drop by all the time to give in-person reports, some late nights and weekends may be involved, exotic locations, confiding in each other, all the while there will be static electricity-like tension building in the air to a fine crescendo. I’ve seen how these things sometimes turn out in the past, so let me assure you, it’s all good. May I have the right to call you “Boss Lady”?

It’s better that way. Now that there’s no longer an employer/employee connection to tiptoe around, we can get back to hanky-panky just like old times . . .

Believe it or not, that actually doesn’t bother me at all. I’ve grown so accustomed to it over lo these two decades that it’s become veritable background noise to me. A part of me finds it kind of soothing, and it helps induce sleep.
