Well, we're going back to the moon. For those of you who were around for the Apollo missions, is this a big deal

or a waste of money? For those of you who were not around for Apollo, same question.

For me it is a waste of money.

They are going to the moon to speak to the folks there to discuss the nuclear threat in Russia then ask for their help.

Well the Cold War is colder the ever so it is a big deal to get back up there and show those rooskies a thing or 2. I also think humans didn't climb down out of the trees to not go to the moon and beyond. The space program is also a good source of National pride and America could use a bit more of that right now. Cheers!

The launch was supposed to be this morning.  This is the link to the NASA channel on YouTube, but so far, they are showing something about planets and aren't showing the launch:

That's a test launch, not an actual flight to the moon. Much ado about nothing.

    Update:

The countdown clock was halted about 40 minutes before the targeted launch time.

The U.S. space agency cited a problem detected on one of the rocket's main engines, during filling of the rocket's core fuel tanks with super-cooled liquid oxygen and hydrogen propellants.

I already read that. That’s why I have no idea what the big whoop is.

I've heard several reasons that probably make sense to some people. But with all the humanitarian crises here on Earth, I need more convincing before  I concede that it should be a spending priority.

If we're ever going to get to Mars, Luna is an indispensable way station. Earth is at the bottom of a very deep gravity well. Refuelling on the Moon is a sine qua non or nobody is getting back.
