Canada has strict gun laws, so someone goes out and stabs a bunch of people instead. What's the point, eh?

To use a knife, you have to get close.

True, but so much for gun laws preventing mass murder.

They absolutely make it harder to achieve. One mass stabbing in Canada makes headlines. Yet another gun atrocity in the US barely makes page 48 these days.

Technically, this was a spree killing, not a mass murder.

Is there a difference beyond semantics?

A mass murder occurs in a single location, so it matters when you are discussing the weapon of choice and whether to regulate it.

They could ban everything but hockey pucks as weapons.

Canadians don't need hockey pucks for weapons because we know Jersey Kung Foo. Jersey Kung Foo is were you pull the attackers jersey/shirt over their head then start punching them in the body until you hear a crake. Cheers! This post was edited by Nanoose at September 7, 2022 8:27 AM MDT

Ever get hit with a hockey puck?  Bet that would do some damage and if it gets you in the temple, you're a goner.

A woman in Columbus was killed by one a few years ago.

The point is with no gun laws the US has had  over 400 mass shooting this year and the year is not over. Plus I bet the US has a few stabbings. Gun laws have proving to be affective in Canada and a few other countries around the world. I also think it is sad that even with something as tragic as a stabbing you have to get your eh shot in. Exactly, laws do not stop a criminal from doing a crime.  That is why they are criminals.

The gun evens the playing field for someone who is smaller/weaker.

Some people are just evil and they are going to be evil.

Most of the places with a lot of gun crimes also have very strict gun laws.  ie. Chiraq, New York City, CA etc.
