    If they are not the driver and security.  If they are not fun people.  If you are the only one with a drivers license.  If you didn't know they were coming.  If they want to share a room.

    I have many wonderful memories of trips with groups of friends and trips with my family.  I'm glad I have those memories.  Today, I most enjoy being alone in my car.  I drove across the country and never even turned on the radio.  I was never bored and didn't stay on expressways.  I wanted to see as much of the country as I could.  It was a wonderful experience.  I would not hesitate to do it again.

    Radio not of my choice
    Not being the driver exclusively

    I recall a road trip with my mom, my sister and my sister's partner. Mom and Sis talked incessantly for three days. I kept my earphones on so that I  wouldn't get drawn in. Even after my battery died, I kept them on. They also called for pit stops at least once an hour, and then wondered why it took so long to get to our destination.

    The good news: That person you’re taking on the road trip is a terrible driver.  She won’t be doing any of the driving.

    The bad news: Everybody else in the car discovers that she’s just as much a terrible passenger as she is a terrible driver.
