How much effort does it take to get you interested in soccer?

As a nation, I guess you're more impressed by catching things with your hands. Especially with gloves!

    That seems pretty clear.

Personally, for MO....I can only give you:
    KC Chiefs
    KC Royals
    ST Louis Cardinals
    ST Louis Blues

I would have to look it up to see if there are others.

If those two are our cousins, I can guess which two named the wrong city's hockey team. I see the Americans view women's basketball the same way the Argentinians view women's football (soccer).

That's a shame, isn't it? Women's football is gaining traction in Europe - slowly, perhaps, but steadily. Bigger attendances, better facilities. And a lot less rolling around screaming.

I wonder what it would take for women’s basketball to gain some traction with the eight people I asked who couldn’t name the Lynx.  They’ve been to more championship games than any other WNBA team and they’re tied for the most championships.  We can’t say the same for the team that’s their male counterpart, ahem.

That's impressive. And that guy is adorable! If I were younger, he might be enough to get me interested.

You telling me that at your age, you're not allowed to have a little fun?

His name is Jeremy Lynch. Knock yourself out!

I've got a couple more options for you. Anyone catch your eye?

(Yes, that's me in the red. The one with the white socks, running through the middle.)

I have little to no interest in sports of any kind although I do like watching Olympics ice skating.

Do the Europeans have the same stereotype of American soccer fans as people in my country have?

We love soccer because we don't want to be like other Americans! We want to be like everybody else!

Danilo, ^^ this ^^ is what you get for starting a discussion about soccer.  Martina will show up right away to talk trash about other teams and their fans.

With soccer, one thing is for sure: they probably deserve it!

And I'll defer to the opinion of those who most recently won the World Cup.

That's a good one! Possibly... If we were ever to put the words "American supporters (fans)" and "football (soccer)" together. Anyone who dreads watching baseball is all right in my book.

But nowadays you get some American businesspeople buying majority stakes in famous European clubs, including my team, Liverpool (Alexis Mac Allister's Liverpool). They inevitably start spouting typically American ideas: Super League! Play-offs! All-star games! ... So they mostly get made fun of for that.

In your opinion. Tens of millions of people in the US (especially including Puerto Rico), Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Mexico, Venezuela, Canada,  Japan, South Korea, and a bunch of other countries disagree. This post was edited by Stu Spelling Bee at November 18, 2023 9:07 PM MST

I hope it was clear I was joking. I'd genuinely like to understand the appeal. A friend of mine once said something about how, with baseball more than anything, it's the entire experience that matters - the stadium, the fans; in short, being part of it.

It helps to know the game from watching it and appreciating that hitting a ball traveling 95+ MPH and spinning with a round bat is by far the most difficult thing to accomplish in any sport.

I find baseball highly entertaining – but only the beer league (teams that are sponsored by bars or teams that just what to drink a few beers and have fun). Cheers and happy weekend!
