How good are you at parallel parking?

I was good enough at it to pass my driving test, but I am not good at it now.  Almost everywhere I go and shop has pull-in parking so my skills have gone.

On a scale of 1 to 10 im probably a 6 But if the parking space is really big I'm a 9. :)

Maintaining that skill requires constant practice and I've avoided doing it for years, ever since the back turned bad. I can't twist to look through the back window comfortably.

That’s what the rearview mirror and backup camera are for.

Do you even own a car?

No, but parallel parking is easy. Just a matter of angles and depth perception.

It is not easy the first time you try. Takes lots of practice.

I’ve been doing it for 40+ years. My parents always had a car, and my father taught me about it.

    It’s easy.

"Just a matter of angles and depth perception."
That's exactly why it's not easy for some people!

    It gets easier with practice.

Never owned a car with a backup camera, and rear-view mirrors have a "blind spot".

I’m good at avoiding having to do it. I’ll find a lot and pay.

Yep! Either that or just go somewhere with a parking lot! :)

Exactly :) There‘s not many places left where I live that have free parking lots though. The mall is the only place I  can think of and I’d rather stab NYE left eyeball ten times with a fork than go into our local mall.

I'd barely be able to get my bicycle in there neatly.

Excellent.  I choose parallel parking over lot parking when there is a choice.  There usually isn't but there is at my mother's doctor office and I always parallel park there.

Grew up in Brooklyn, so it’s easy for me.

It’s even easier with the backup camera on newer models.

And it’s even easier to not own a car and get picked up and dropped off in an Uber.

I get that but there is a serious germ factor.

Not any worse than any other mode of public transportation. The cars I have been in seemed quite clean, and I have never had any health issues.

I don't doubt that.  I stay away from public trans.  One day I may need to get around that way but I'm nowhere near that now.

It’s a fact of life in many large cities.

I understand that.  My husband had family in and around NYC and we visited quite a lot.  We always stayed with his aunt/under and five kids in Montclair, NJ.  They had a garage full of cars but when we went to the city we walked to the corner and got on a bus that took us to get on the train that took us into the city.  I know one can get used to this.  I'm just not anxious to have to.  I have to admit that I like riding trains unless they are going very fast.
