Will Biden survive until the election? Or will he be replaced?

It was a painful performance to be sure and I don't know what will happen. Biden may just been having a bad day, but can presidents afford to have to have a bad day? Biden's record and his policies matter to me, but I do have reservations about the future.

He got back on the campaign trail today and all I could think is, 'where was this guy last night'?

There is a big difference between delivering a pre-written script from a teleprompter and having to respond on your own to important questions from moderators and your opponent.
Now that it has been shown Biden cannot handle it himself,  the real question is who is running the country?

After reflection, I think Biden's issue had a lot to do with trying to recite facts and figures from memory. Something that is generally not expected from most people in normal situations.  ( I know that I always referred to notes in meetings and presentations and I was, and am, a lot younger than Biden.) He should have just concentrated on the big picture. Losing the first debate has never meant losing the election.  Trump didn't have the problem Biden had, because sticking to facts is not his style and he sidestepped any question he didn't want to answer. Trump's performance didn't get very high marks for a supposed win. This post was edited by Jane S at June 29, 2024 10:03 AM MDT

Again, what question did Trump not answer?

Yes, Presidents are expected to know their facts and figures.  Biden was simply lost and confused.  Not a good look on the world stage.

Perhaps if you were paying attention to Trump, instead of looking for ammunition against Biden, you would be able to answer that yourself.

I did pay attention.    I am not the one who claimed someone did not answer a question at all.  Back up YOUR claim.

I'm not going to get in a back and forth argument. You believe what you want anyway.

So you don't have an answer....

Not one you won't argue with, because there is no such thing. Watch the debate again or don't. Doesn't matter to me if you believe me or not.

Is it better to possibly flub the answer to a question or dance around and not answer it when you don't have an answer or, worse, lie?  More than once, Trump was asked a few questions which he didn't answer or answered on an unrelated matter.

What question(s) did Trump not answer?

It took Dana Bash three times asking Trump if he would accept the results of the election before he gave some roundabout response which, if you listen carefully, meant that if he didn't win it wouldn't be a fair election.

He Trump tried to avoid addressing the issue of January 6th being an insurrection.

He answered it.  The first time he addressed condemning the people who were violent on Jan 6.  But did not get to the accepting a result if it did not look fraudulent.   He did get distracted hitting Biden back after his false claims.  But certainly did answer it upon her redirect.

An entirely different Biden appeared at that rally the following day than the one who appeared at the debate.  I was astonished at the difference.  It's unfortunate that he did so poorly on Thursday.  Regardless, there is no way I would vote for Trump, so I could have saved myself the trouble of witnessing that humiliating performance. Pre-written speech he could read via teleprompter and only spoke for 20 minutes...and during the day. The debate was past his bedtime.

Biden could stand there and drool and still make more sense than that other guy.

He came close to that last night.  No one thinks he made sense.

And these make sense to you?

    Yes, they make absolute sense.

First on likely just a gaffe....it happens. Obama visited all 57 states. Biden told a man in a wheelchair to stand up and take a bow.  And talked about Roosevelt coming on TV to address the American people have the 1929 stock market crash.

2nd one Trump is talking about how the pollution from China travels through the air to our country.

The last 2 are talking about the water reducers they are required to put in new facets, toilets, showers etc.

I bet after Biden realized he made a mistake because the guy was in a wheelchair - he apologized. Trump wouldn’t even acknowledge he made a mistake – instead he would of made an insensitive joke like – how many miles per gallon to you get on that thing? Cheers!

That decision was made long ago.  We seem to assume this will happen, but remember, nothing really is as it seems.  The only truth, I believe, is that for years we have basically watched a performance.  It continues.

Physically he will survive but he might hand over the baton to another person. And I’m thinking it will be Michelle Obama. Cheers!
