    I made a black bean and bacon - dish in the slow cooker yesterday. It was the first time I had black beans and found I really like them. Before I put the bacon in the slow cooker I fried it up – I put all the bacon grease in the slow cooker too. Cheers!

    At least 5 weeks ago, had to cut back on the cholesterol, but I love extra, extra crispy bacon, just this side of burned.  Now eating turkey bacon, sigh.  :  (

    Granted, it's slightly cheaper than beef (I use turkey as it's usually less than $3 /lb. and beef is $6.99 + /lb), but it's not worth having a heart attack or stroke (heart meds are expensive!)

    That's why I substitute kangaroo. Zero cholesterol.
    Bacon is ambrosial but ground bacon just wouldn't work in lasagna.

    I can't remember the last time I bought bacon.  It has been years.  I like it but it is too expensive for mostly pork fat.   I rather buy a piece of ham to flavor soup or beans.
