Got a good side to Trump’s tariff rhetoric?

Trump’s tariff treats have sparked a new sense of pride in Canada. 70% of Canadians are feeling more patriotic since Trump started his tariff treats. But you can’t put food on the table with pride – so Canada and Canadians are in the process of being less dependent on trading with the US. And in the long run I think that’s a good thing. Cheers!

That’s good to hear because now I’m thinking little Timmy will be getting a birthday present.
I think Trump is playing tariff games. And I think a lot countries are getting sick of it – and those countries will work together to beat Trump at his own game. Cheers!

You do know the tarriffs on Canada did not go into effect because Canada claims they will secure the border, right?

The tariffs are "no exceptions", so the USA will pretty soon have to stop building airplanes. You DON'T have good quality aluminium ore, you can't dig up what isn't there. You import practically all of it from Canada. And the tariffs are "without exceptions". This won't hurt Australia too badly, the USA is not a major buyer of Australian iron and aluminium anyway - most of it is bought by China. It WILL hurt Canada and it will bite you on the a$$ too. It's called cutting off your nose to spite your face.

Most does come from CA not nearly all.
But regardless.   Trump is trying to bring back American manufacturers.   And that is the point of these tariffs on aluminum and steel.  And if a company is making their product in the US they are getting a tax cut.  That will offset some of the tarriff costs.

This will DRIVE AWAY American manufacturing. Manufacturers will produce finished items elsewhere where raw materials are cheaper (no tariffs), then shop low bulk higher cost finished items to the US rather than low cost high bulk raw materials. Basic economics - did you even graduate from junior high?

Good for Canadians!  The bully is using tariffs (and the threat thereof) to get his way (his motto is - "my way or the highway").  The more nations that stand up to him and his stupidity the better.

Papa's got a brand new bag.
Trump is now using bullying tactics to get countries to give him their rare minerals. He is doing it to the Ukraine - one of their rare minerals is the stuff to make batteries for EV’s. Smells a little fishy to me because Musk needs the stuff to make batteries for EV’s. Cheers!

We'll buy your oil and sell you our wines - better than California and cheaper than France.

Interestingly enough, I believe Trump said that he was not in favor of EV cars.  That must have sat really well with Musk. This post was edited by Spunky at February 10, 2025 8:10 AM MST

He did say he wasn’t in favor of EV’s. And he also said he would rather take his chances with sharks then being on a sinking electric boat.

Right now he has stopped or wants to stop the construction of EV charging stations along American highways. And I think that is another thing Trump is doing out of sour grapes. Going green was a Biden thing so Trump will make sure he destroys it. Cheers!

What Trump said is he is in favor of people having a choice in the type of vehicle they buy.  No one should be forced to buy an EV or vice-versa.  Some people want them and some do not.

But yes, he also said he would rather deal with sharks than an EV boat if it fails.  (The batteries do not do well submerged in water...they tend to catch fire)

Same position he had/has on the jab. This post was edited by my2cents at February 10, 2025 8:49 AM MST
