Dem politicians calling for violence. Will anything be done?

Rep. Robert Garcia (D-CA)

“Well, he is a d**k,” Garcia responded. “I also think he is harming the American public in an enormous way. What the American public wants is for us to bring actual weapons against Elon Musk to this bar fight,” he continued. “This an actual fight for democracy, for the future of this country.”

Robert Garcia should have known that his words would be interpreted literally, by those with a poor grasp of the nuances of language. However, I agree with his sentiment that the Democrats need to be more aggressive in their pushback against what is happening in government today. Hakeem Jeffries and Chuck Schumer need to be replaced with people capable of leadership.

I believe he meant what he actually said.

I also believe when Mace said what she said...she meant actually what she said.  She was ready to whoop that woman.

Garcia is trying to get a lefty nut to do something. Just as other Dem politicians have been trying to do lately. This post was edited by my2cents at February 15, 2025 6:34 AM MST

    Will anything be done?
Not until, in my opinion, many politicians in both of the major two political parties in the USA start WORKING TOGETHER.

Yes, I do mean it -- WORKING TOGETHER. Enough of this "Us against Them" and "Divide and Conquer." Heaven forbid that politicians WORK TOGETHER for some common goals. Enough of "my way or no way" kind of thinking in my opinion.

And the current president might consider that his (to me) constant encouragement of division and seemingly-to-me constant name-calling and derisive comments toward many others might be part of why some other people may act in similar derisive ways to, and about, him.
And the man, to me, is not the poor innocent victim that many seem to think.
He came into politics being derisive and name-calling from Day One (my opinion).

And the fact that we normal citizens would have been fired very quickly if we talked and behaved like him on our jobs. I ponder that fact. And I question the political world.

He encouraged everyone to fight for the country, too.

I don't agree with his words very often.
And I don't agree with the words Garcia chose to use.

And I don't agree that people are encouraging some nutjobs to do something. (If I followed that statement correctly.)

At this point, I may consider entering politics myself --  maybe to see if anyone out there may actually believe in treating others like they themselves would like to be treated. I somehow doubt it -- I may be alone, like loving those gray cloudy overcast cool weather days.  :)

I appreciate your posting the question. I was unaware of the statements of your question. I read up more from various news sources.

Politicians will never work together.   And truthfully most voters do not want them to.

Yes, you followed what I said correctly. I believe and have heard politicians encouraging violence... we disagree.   It happens.

I don't know enough of your political positions to say if I would vote for you. I do think you lean libertarian.  Which is my protest vote.

I seem to remember in my life of government people working more together than in recent times.
I guess I'm one of those few voters who would like to see them work together.

Violence is not an answer, yes.

I was joshing about my entering politics. No way would I fit in well, or do an effective job for people in the political world. :)
    Yes, I  do lean Libertarian.

Throughout history, politicians have worked together  to pass important legislation.  Most recently,  Obama had a bipartisan cabinet, and Congress passed several important bipartisan bills including the JOBS act and the 21st Century CURES act. Without bipartisanship, we would not have passed the Civil Rights Act. I hold out hope that politicians will again begin acting to serve the public interests instead of their own. Perhaps things have to get worse before they get better.

I’m past the hoping that politicians will again begin acting to serve the public interests - stage.

I’m now in the picking out my party pants for when that day comes - stage.

And on the day that I put on my party pants – I will have Donald J Trump to thank. Not because he did anything good but because he did everything so bad people will know they have to work together and strive for better – not worse. Cheers and happy weekend!

    Yes. Thanks.

I'm not well-versed to speak detailed on politics but I seem to remember/observe in my life that the people are working in government are working together. Or, at least, not such fighting.  This post was edited by WelbyQuentin at February 17, 2025 1:32 PM MST

Wonderful post and I believe that any normal, concerned citizen would agree with you.  At the rate the GOP is screwing this country and now our allies, it won't be long before the USA is circling the drain and there doesn't really seem to be much that can be done about it.  The checks and balances in the Constitution seem to be mere suggestions to the GOP.  None of them have the guts to stand up to Trump.  In the current environment, there is absolutely no hope of invoking the 25th Amendment. Thanks for finding my post helpful. :)

I'm no expert but I certainly am shaking my head a bit at things.  I admit, in some ways, the political world is all another environment for me. :)

A s**t ton of grandstanding and loud speeches without anything actually being done. They don't have a plan, and it's obvious to anyone that's paying attention.

I agree with most of that.  They don't have a plan in Congress because they do not have the votes to stop anything.
They are using the courts many cases will end up at the Supreme.
But I also believe so of the rhetoric is in hopes of a nut solving their problem.

They don't have a plan, because the Democrats lack capable leadership. And if you mean a nut solving their problem is an assassination, that would not 'solve' anything and would probably exacerbate the situation. Look at what effect past assassinations have had. Democrats are not advocating political violence,  they are being asked to step up, tell the truth, combat misinformation and quit worrying about being accused of trying to stir up violence every time they stand up for democracy.

I agree that the Dems are lacking good leadership.  Having said that, even if they did, with the GOP controlling all three branches of government, the SCOTUS in their pocket and virtually all of the GOP too afraid to go against Trump for fear of him retaliating, it would be difficult, if not impossible, for them to get anything done.  At the last round of possible government shutdown negotiations, there was a bi-partisan bill but Trump insisted on scrapping it so as not to give Biden the credit.  Even when the two parties work together - nothing happens. I think there is still a lot that can be done through the courts, through combating misinformation and exposing corruption. I'm hopeful that the DNC chair will make changes that can help Democrats win more seats in the midterms. And since this isn't really about Liberals versus Conservatives,  it is about Democracy versus a dictatorship run by Big Tech, it's probable that some Republicans will start to break ranks as the whole scheme is exposed. There is some talk now of letting a government shutdown happen to stop the dismantling of our institutions. We have to keep trying. And Jeffries saying we have to choose our battles and Schumer waving his arms and leading a chant are not going to help.

Dems definitely need to get the message out about how disastrous this administration can be.  I would hate to see the government shut down, but we cannot keep bowing to the GOP and giving them everything they demand.  The 35-day shutdown during Trump's last term should be a warning as to what will happen, but people seem to have very short memories.  Now, with all three branches in GOP hands, it will be hard to blame the Dems for a shutdown, but they always need a scapegoat and the Dems will be theirs.  I do foresee the administration mired in lawsuits which means little will actually get done, but the way things are going, that could be a good thing.

When Trump called for a National Day of Police Brutality, you cheered him. As usual, you're cherry picking.
