How cringe-worthy was it to see Elon Musk waving around a chain saw at the CPAC event?

His reveling in how much he and his cohorts have upended and ruined the lives of so many government employees and their families was disgusting.  Just goes to show that you can be the wealthiest man in the world and still have no class.  He's not right in the head.

Maybe it explains why they lost the contact information for the nuclear workers. They went in slashing with a chainsaw instead of a fine toothed comb. Cheers and happy weekend!

No brains no pains.  The wealthy don't care about other people, only themselves.

In a perfect world, Musk would lose everything he has and have to live in a cardboard box and dumpster dive for food.

It was funny. He is helping cut waste.  Rand Paul did something similar with the tax code years ago.

Biden killed the Keystone pipeline on day 1 of his presidency,  effectively firing thousands of Americans. Biden fired thousands of Americans who did not want to subject themselves to an experimental "vaccine." So sorry, not worried about government workers who refuse to go to the office to work. Or government workers who are not willing to follow the new gov leadership. This post was edited by my2cents at February 21, 2025 8:23 PM MST

No one is against getting rid of fraud and waste, but it should be done legally and in a surgical manner, not with a chain saw.  Would you feel the same way if your sons were government employees that came to work one day and without any notice at all, had their lives upended and told to get out?

It is being done legally. The President has the power to fire whoever he wants. He can get advice from whomever he wants.  They are doing audits before advising what they think should be cut.  Not a chainsaw.

The people who quite voluntarily are going to get 9 months of continuing full pay.  They will be fine.

My children would be willing to come to work in the office. My children did not take the shot so likely would have already have been fired by Biden.

Life sucks sometimes, any of us could be laid-off at anytime. If that is deemed necessary for a business.

You cannot tell me that in such a short period of time, DOGE had an opportunity to audit each and every department they have slashed.  It is not possible.  These folks can be fired for cause - however, many of them have never been reviewed by their superiors and in other cases, these employees have received stellar reviews yet have been fired anyway.  Open your eyes for a change and use some critical thinking.

From what I could see, Musk was barely coherent and looked to be high as a kite. Why the sunglasses?

All these firings are partly for show. The savings are just not there, when you consider severance packages and unemployment benefits. Mass layoffs don't result in short term savings. I worked in Corporate finance long enough to know that. They are used for long-term positioning and are done with a lot of pre-planning, to ensure that the business operations won't suffer.

Project 2025 planned to get rid of career civil servants and replace them with their own people. The bragged about having a database of people ready to move into vacated jobs. Qualifications included election denial and party affiliation. So savings on salary isn't really going to happen; they will just pay their own people instead of the dedicated, knowledgeable workforce they fired.

Anyone with half a brain would realize that the way they are doing things is not going to be cost-saving and that's assuming that they actually do pay these people who resigned early the pay/benefits promised. Getting rid of seasoned, knowledgeable personnel only means that there will be a learning curve for new employees which will not make for efficiency.  If the MAGAS actually think that Trump is not going to reduce Medicaid and Medicare benefits along with other needed programs, they will soon find out.  They will suffer more than some others and I find I'm having difficult feeling sorry for whatever downturns they suffer.

Muskrat has been awarded $1bn in government contracts the past fortnight. It's not about eliminating waste, it's not about saving money. It's about channelling public funds into the hands of billionaire predators.
I also think it's unlikely that those employees will see a penny in severance packages or unemployment benefits, given His Royal Orangeness's track record. Stiffing employees is what Trump is famous for.

Exactly.  I wouldn't trust Trump for a minute.  Many of the folks who opted to take the offer were people who would either have been about to retire, were looking for other employment, or those who figured they would be fired and decided to take a chance since they had nothing to lose.  In that way, on their resumes, they would be able to honestly say they quit rather than having to say they had been fired.

7000 IRS employees fired. Statistics show that for every dollar of payroll, there are $6 of tax revenue. Much of this comes from auditing the tax returns of wealthy individuals and companies. Nothing suspicious about that. And since tax audits will be one of the ways that Trump will target his enemies, they will need to hire some loyalists to do his dirty work.

I just don't understand the logic without undergoing a detailed review. This can't have been undertaken in the few weeks Trumpler and Musk have been in office. Goebbels would be proud of both.

You do know that Donold's 2017 tax cuts for the top 1% of taxpayers added $2 TRILLION to the debt, right? Why hasn't Elon suggested backtracking on those?

And those tax cuts are set to expire, so they have to be added into the next budget bill. So, it looks like making cuts to Medicaid for Grandma's nursing home is a good place to offset at least part of that.

7,000 IRS employees fired IN THE MIDDLE OF TAX SEASON.  What a fantastic idea for Trump's rich friends to pull the wool over everyone's eyes.
