Can Trump still surprise you (first couple minutes of video)? Your thoughts?

I was surprised that he couldn't recognize photo shop. And further surprised that no one let him know that those letters and descriptions were added labels, not part of the tattoo. And the way he treated the journalist made me think I know why people won't tell him the truth. The fact that this man is negotiating trade deals and peace talks in an era of deep fakes, propaganda and scams is truly frightening to me. A president should have critical thinking skills, trustworthy advisors and the willingness to listen.

I agree. If he's like this in front of a camera with millions watching, what's he going to be like behind close doors? 'Yes, Mr President', is all he'll accept. 

I agree.  The only way we will know exactly what is on Garcia's hand is to see it in person.  It isn't easy to identify deepfakes, so the fact that Trump didn't see it is not surprising.  He's not that bright.  As troubling as his negotiations on trade deals and peace talks, I think I'm more afraid that he has the nuclear codes.

I just wanted to add, the tattoos are real. The letters MS13 above the symbols was added as were the the less visible words below the actual tattoos. There are just as many photos that were to doctored to hide or remove the tattoo. If Biden  believed those fakes, I would have had the same reaction. I'm still trying to get myself to watch the whole 40 minute interview with ABC. It's on YouTube and I read through a lot of the comments. About half the comments were either complimentary of Trump or critical of the interviewer or both. It's hard for me to grasp how people living in the same reality can have such different perceptions. I wish I could get inside their minds to understand what makes them have those views.

I couldn't bring myself to watch that interview on TV last night.  I can't stand listening to him for 4 minutes, let alone 40.  I did see the clip of the Garcia portion of the interview.  Naturally, when Trump is confronted with someone who won't let him skirt an issue or lie about it, he calls them not nice and nasty people.  Even if Trump knows that the tattoos are altered, he would never admit it because he can't admit he is wrong.

As for those who voted for him.  Many of them are under-educated (his favorite kind of voter).  Many of them come from poorer red states and they see themselves somewhat is victims of society because they aren't capable of getting better jobs or making more money.  To them, Trump is their idol because they see in him what they cannot do themselves - rail publicly at the universe and loudly buck the system.  What they don't see, is that his decisions will make their lives even worse.  On one hand, I feel somewhat sorry for them but on the other hand, I hope they get what's coming to them for picking him as their president and casing the rest of us to suffer as well.

I don't think Trump supporters are all alike. We see the yokels at his rallies and think all of them are like that. But they run the gamut. I think I see a common thread among them, but I hesitate to express it because I don't want to  risk offending anyone.

You weren’t wrong re - the offending bit. One of my comments has been deleted for suggesting that a subset—not all—of Trump supporters harboured white supremacist views. It's ironic that someone who champions free speech is so quick to censor, especially considering they’ve made numerous sweeping claims about Ukraine being full of Nazis. The double standards of the moderating here is amusing.

It's not amusing when it drives away members. I saw your original post and found nothing that needed to be censored.  It would be helpful if you sent this to Just Asking.She is aware we have moderation issues and that a solution is needed . If you read his time interview,  he honestly believes that the Supreme Court ruled 9-0 that he didn't have to. His people told him that. And when Stephen Miller is proclaiming that in the Oval Office while the Attorney General nods in agreement, why wouldn't he believe it. Unless he watched the Fake News. 

Well if he is so easily fooled/coned then he is a danger to national security. Cheers!

Welby, I think you have enough to deal with without spending time on all the political ugliness going on at present. Keep yourself uplifted with the work you do as you work through your grief. Take care of yourself.
