Are you a fan of any music/songs/bands in languages you don't speak or understand at all?

Anything counts  but especially little known contemporary stuff.

I wonder if this is the official music video for the song? I love the video, and the song!
I want to hang out with the people in the video - - they look like a blast to be with!
    :)

(My time management skills need improving - - I've still not listened to all of the music here. But I will! Back to work for me now, though.) This post was edited by WelbyQuentin at December 7, 2016 12:34 PM MST

  • Yeah it's the official and I agree they do like a blast to see live or hang with.  Kinda remind of a Russian Gogol Bordello.
I went through hell and high water to get on their fan site.  (Do you know how hard it is to deal with Cyrillic  websites?)  Anyways I was able to have one member respond and email me translations to their songs.  I wish somehow I could see them play.  I think their sound and style is awesome.

I like this song and video as much as the other one and for the same reasons! And for the reasons you mentioned, Glis.
    :)
I can only imagine the challenges of getting to their website!
Is the name of the band translatable? I'm wondering about the band's name.
I enjoy this music and the videos a lot, thanks!

  • Literal: Ensemble though anyone (or whom)
From what I was told it would mean  Ensemble of the People or The People's Ensemble in English

There's a lot of good stuff coming out of Russia and the old Eastern Block right now. This post was edited by Benedict Arnold at December 8, 2016 8:16 PM MST

    Hello Glis:

Truth is, I don't understand the words of MOST popular music, so it's ALL foreign to me..

    Hello again, Glis:

Well, I like "The Boss", of course.  The problem is, I always thought Born In The USA was a patriotic ditty..  Come to find out, it's anything but.

  • Far from it.  That's why it's so funny when people usually sing it.

  • Not music as such, but love this.

And this.  The first use of this as a national song at a national sporting event and almost half a century old.

    Yes.

I love Anime, and I do not understand a word of it beyond the very small part that gets translated for subtitles.

    Hi OldSchoolTheSKOSlives and Glis!

The accordion is my favorite part of this song ~
"Come With Me Now" by the Kongos
(I've liked everything I've heard by this band)

Ever since I heard this song by Sigur Ros and watched the music video, I've been a fan of their music.

    "Viorar Vel Til Loftarasa"

~  I'm unsure possibly, but the youtube audio for this song in the couple of postings I found somehow seems less dynamic than when I first heard  the song. I'm disappointed. I'm sure now as I listen that the audio levels seem indistinct (even though it's sort of Sigur Ros' sound -- an ethereal type of sound). This song now does not sound exactly right somehow. The song as I remember had more dynamic volume distinctions in the song.

    Oh, well.
    :)

If I may mention it without breaking answermug's rules, another answermugger (I'll not mention a specific name) has wisely (to me) posted this same great song in the Videos section of the site when I was having trouble with sharing the song a while ago.
I plan on exploring others' answers here but now I have to go to work.

  • I heard this in SA a long time ago, still don't know what it means. But I found it very catchy. I still play it at the house sometimes.
