Have you ever been stopped by the police for a traffic violation? Did you try to talk your way out of it? Did you succeed?

Just saw on the news that a Mass man tried to convince the court that the officer's radar might have picked up a deer running.

LOL!  I guess it was worth a shot to attempt to get out paying of an expensive ticket.  I have never been in this kind of situation.  So, reading about it made me curious.  Have you made up an excuse or said something that you can laugh about now?  Are you brave enough to share your silliness here?

  • Last time I got a ticket was in 1988 for riding a dirt bike up the street doing wheelies! BUSTED! I deserved it though!

    Thanks for sharing that Rooster.

I think we all do things as kids we shouldn't.  For whatever reason, I never got caught.  Maybe I will do something terrible one day in which Karma will really catch up to me!  I think I'll wait until I am very old and don't have any money.  I'll use jail as my retirement home.

A Mountie stopped me for speeding on the No. 1. I offered that I would never say anything bad anymore again about the RCMP if he would just make it a warning.

That did not go over too well.

I have been pulled over a few times, but I didn't bother talking my way out as I knew I was wrong.

Thanks for responding Element.  I know it must be intimidating being pulled over.  I'm always amazed at how some people just don't blink and can think so quickly.  For me, the thought of being pulled over makes me nervous.  Since I'm not wearing Depends (yet) I don't want to bring that kind of attention to myself.

I've been driving for more than two decades, and I've been pulled over by the police more than once.
The first time was within a year of receiving my license, and I had made a "questionably" illegal u-turn.   I merely explained to the officers that I missed the driveway to the burger joint and whipped the steering wheel around at the last second. I was not cited.
The next time I was pulled over, it was due to the officer thinking that I was too young to be driving. I've always looked about five to ten years younger than my actual age, so it's something I've dealt with all my life. A quick check of my identification was all that it took, and I was on my way.
There have been incidents where I have been pulled over and let off with a warning, and others where I have been cited.
In closing, and just because it's a relevant issue in modern times, I always interact courteously with law enforcement officers in these situations, regardless of whether or not I believe I'm justified in my actions, or even if I believe the officer is not justified. I don't want to give any officer grief, especially to the point of escalating to violence in the part of either of us. I never raise my voice, I don't curse at them (nor do I allow them to use profanity in addressing me), and I don't argue. I am truly the non-existent "routine traffic stop".

How many freaking times have you been pulled over man?  Hahaha!  Maybe each time you got caught, I was the one driving away making you eat my dust! Hehe.  Actually, I have had some close calls but I can't figure out how I've managed to not get pulled over.  I don't want to admit how long I've been driving!  Let's just say it's much longer than you have been.

I agree with your point about always interacting courteously.  Thanks for responding Randy.

Yes. I have never received a moving violation. I have paid my share of seat belt tickets.
I am always polite. And of course never make sudden moves and keep my hands visible. And have usually just received a warning.

Do you buckle up now my2?  My car doesn't like it when I don't buckle up.  It yells at me.

Yes, I think politeness goes a long way.  Thanks for sharing my2.

  • Less often than I deserved.

Once I was pulled over and the cop said, "You're not arguing about this sir."
I asked, "Would it help?" and he said that it wouldn't. So I explained that the FA Cup Final was due to start and I didn't want to miss it arguing with him.
He said, "You've taken this so well can I advise you not to pay the fine before Wednesday?"
    "Why not?"
"I heard on the radio that the world will end on Tuesday."
It's not often you can get a traffic ticket and leave laughing.

But here's one you can try.
Businessman, speeding, tries to outrun the cop. He's finally pulled over and the cop says, "I'm off duty shortly and I don't want to waste time on you. If you give me an excuse I haven't heard before I'll let you off."
"My wife ran off with a policeman. I thought you were bringing her back."
    "Have a nice weekend, sir."
