Looks or personality? What would you look for in a romance?

  • Not as easily. If you're talking about acting or putting-on a front, that's easy. People do that all the time, but changing who you are isn't easy.

No, none of the above. I'm referring to the natural changes in personality that occur over a person's lifetime due to growth, maturity, life experiences, adversity, adaptation, loss, etc.

  • "Over a person's lifetime." We do have the same idea.
Looks can change quickly and artificially. Personalities evolve with time.

  • I didn't realise they were both the same person till I searched for the pic. What an extraordinary difference.

If you're interested here's a link to a page (in Russian) that gives a lot more of the same.

  • Personality heavily outweighs looks/appearance. Plus the older we become, the more our looks deteriorate. I have to have at least a slight physical attraction to a woman, but a personality is always what I look for most. After leaving my ex and being single for 2 1/2 years without going on a single date I don't want to date and quite frankly, the thought of dating scares the dickens out of me. I'm quite content in solitude.

Personality, but I'd be lying if I didn't admit that there has to be SOME attraction as well.

I don't look for anything physical per say. I'm all for what's in that head of hers.

  • Me too. Mind you, I can say that with tongue in cheek. I got one that had both. :)

Are they really separable?  Each accentuates the other, don't you think so?

  • Ideally, yes. In practise, though, it's often not so.

Chemistry.  That undefinable, yet instantly recognizable something that means I want to know this person.

What keeps it alive is a combination of things, integrity, humor and being twisted in the same ways I am top that list.

  • That just might be the very best answer to this question, and there have been a lot of them. You stepped back, took another look, and came up with a winner. Thanks, Bozette.

Yes.  I agree with Didge.  "Undefinable yet instantly recognizable something"  those are words I'm not likely to forget soon.  I've often looked at beautiful women and thought, sure they're beautiful but I just don't think I could fall for them, why not?  It's that undefinable something, chemistry.  Thanks for that bit of wisdom.  Now I know.  Gee, I think I could fall for you!  Ha ha This post was edited by CallMeIshmael at February 12, 2017 10:57 AM MST

  • Good points. I can certainly respect the attraction of a good mind. Couple that with humour and you have a winner.
