What's middle of the road? Is it the same as wishy-washy? or undecided? Are they good or bad in the scheme of things?

This is inspired by a comment on another thread.. and it got me thinking...  and warning this IS Trump related.... 

Someone said we should be careful of name calling re Trump.. cos it might offend the middle of the road people..  Personally I've never needed to fit in or change my behaviour to be accepted and I don't much like the idea that we should do that.. but thinking about these middle of the road people... 

I think i have decided I don't have much respect for them! If these are people who overlook and ignore Trump's truly appalling behaviour, the lying, the hate speech, the insults, the thoroughly ill-tempered tweets, the unprofessionalism, the stupidity, the bullying attitude then I have decided that these are people who by doing nothing aide and abet such awful behaviour.. My feeling here harks back to another inspirational post on here.. about good men doing nothing.. 

And I suppose my thinking is that if good men sit back and allow and do nothing to even address or protest at bad behaviour then imo, (and yes it only my opinion) then they aren't nice people and they aren't people I can respect and so no definitely I am not going to be worrying about people like that..

So that aside.. enlighten me.. WHO are these middle of the roaders.. what kind of people are they? Do they have any political persuasion? What makes a person see bad behaviour but say nothing? I am curious to know.. human behaviour fascinates me.. what would be the motive of such IN-action, the failure to speak up.. to be counted....

    In yesteryear, there WAS a middle. Those days are gone..  Today, you're either ON the right, or ON the left..  If you're in the middle, you don't know what's going on around you..

    There are people who maybe left on some issues and right on others. I know a few. They are true middle of the roaders. I know a Lady who is pro choice and pro-gun.  And another who is opposite on both.

    But yes I do agree most who claim to be independents, just don't pay attention to the issues and which party supports which side.  I actually got through to some this year. I got them to take the  isidewith.com political quiz. And they all came out a Republicans supporters. It was truly hard on a couple of them.

    I go to isidewith.com quite a bit but they update their choices a lot. The political graph always places me just a little bit to the left of center.

    Interesting. Did you take it during the primaries? Or Election. How did it match you by candidate? I am assuming Clinton with being center left. Do you remember the percentage?

    Not really, my candidate percentages were

    Donald Trump 58%
    Jill Stein 44%
    Gary Johnson 39%
    Hillary Clinton 23%

    My party percentages were

    Constitution Party: 59%
    American Worker's Party 58%
    Republicans: 46%
    Democrats: 40%


    I also took the quiz during the primaries and Bernie Sanders was my best match and Donald Trump was my second best match.  I don't remember the percentages.

    When I took it right before the election Gary Johnson was my best match, Donald Trump was my second, Jill Stein was my 3rd and Hillary Clinton was the worst match.

    My numbers probably don't seem very consistent at all to most people because I don't consider myself to be either liberal or conservative.  I have an uncle who is as far to the right as a person can get and I remember he said he matched Ted Cruz 91% and Jill Stein 9% with isidewith.com.  It actually surprised him that he really did agree with the Green Party candidate 9% of time.  The green marker placed him on the right edge of that ideology graph so his results probably seem more consistent than mine to most people.

  • I do know what's going on I know what Trump is trying to achieve, although clumsily, regarding immigration.  I'm neither right or left I'm giving the man the benefit of the doubt and going to see if he self destructs or comes out smiling.

  • LOL it WAS a joke Karen!! I made very sure that people would know so by including an emoticon.. I do that.. as I know that not everyone gets sarcasm and irony. Not suggesting that applies to you, I am sure you just didn't see the :P  - it happens to me a time or two too - so no worries..

    Some people do not wish to engage in political discussions because it's just not worth it. They will vote when they feel like their voice matters, and they won't talk about their views. 

    Rarely does anyone leave a conversation about politics learning anything new, as they weren't truly in it to discuss the politics. Only for their views to (hopefully) be heard. As for name calling, it's always best to avoid it. Two wrongs don't make a right.

  • Interesting perspective.. I would disagree, lol respectfully of course, on a few points.. I personally have learned loads of new things in the course of these debates.. It's expanded my knowledge on certain things for sure.. that has to be a good thing right? 

    I agree that not everyone wants to talk politics..that's fair enough we all have our likes and dislikes.. there are loads that prefer to discuss politics than anything else.. and there are others who prefer the sexier type chats and questions.. each to their own and we all use the site to get what we want from it.. human nature and all that.. diversity and all that.

    It's funny---I haven't changed my opinions much in the last 40 or so years.  I still stand where I used to, but the left, middle and right sides of the road seem to constantly shift back and forth underneath my feet over the years.
