Is it possible that Trump's cognitive decline the result of a degenerative neurological disorder (ie, Dementia, ALS)?

70-year-old presidential candidate Donald Trump is showing early signs of dementia as evident in changes in posture, weight gain, dishevelment, inappropriate speech and forgetfulness.

Donald Trump has increasingly shown very poor judgement in personal grooming and it appears this has recently been taken over by very talented professionals. His hairstyle is now immaculate and he no longer appears on TV with a very badly applied spray tan (so it looks as though America’s first black president will not be followed by America’s first orange president after all).

The stress and strain of campaigning is taking its toll on Trump and he appears to be visibly aging. There seems to be a subtle change in his speaking in that his outrageous statements cross the line from provocative to outright inappropriate and his inability to understand reality from fantasy.

    Dementia is certainly something that is possible, but I think he's just not as smart or as bright as he tries to sell himself as being.

    Edited to add:  I came across this very well written article this week that explains a lot about why Trump seems to be failing in his political attempts to get what he wants.

    I have always thought there was something seriously off about the man.  There have been other presidents that I have despised their agenda, but never really thought they were not competent.  

    I know they say Trump does not touch alcohol, but his demeanor sure reminds me of someone older who has done a lot of drinking in his day.  If it is truly NOT alcohol, something is impairing his brain.

    I still can't believe he was elected.

    I don't think so.  I think he has bitten off more than he can chew.  When he first started campaigning, he never in his wildest dreams expected to get as far as he did.  He was not prepared for the job.  He thinks he can bully, intimidate, and manipulate people into getting his own way because that is exactly how he ran his business empire.  He forgot, or never learned, about the three branches of government.  He is now up against an army of politicians who are far more shrewd, intelligent, and manipulative than he is, and that he ever had to deal with, on a day to day basis in his professional life.  He is in over his head and his conduct reflects it.

    My grandfather had brain cancer.  Months before he was diagnosed he was behaving strangely. Much like that diarrhea fountain we call potus.

    I'm completely serious. He has a couple of classic indicators. I don't know that it's from a health problem, but if it is that, it would certainly explain the total insulation of him by his children.

    When he held Theresa May's hand going down stairs because he was "afraid", I became totally convinced. He looked so frail and pathetic.

    The more I'm reading the comments, the more I am starting to come around to your way of thinking GJ.  The fact that he didn't respond to Angela Merkel when she suggested a handshake had me very puzzled at the time.  Cognitive impairment might be a reasonable explanation.

  • There is more going on that just willful stupidity and ignorance.
    For example, Ivanka needing to be near her daddy all the time in an "Unpaid" position and his propensity & need for consistency.  Remember when he was on the campaign trail?     I've watched it with relatives too. With my grandad, it started with 'Sun-downers' and in retrospect, the stark differences in Trump's demeanor on the* night of his election win remind me so much of the subtle indicators that first presented with my grandad.

    It's sad to watch and I see a lot of that in the way Melania and his kids observe him. It would explain just about everything. *The sudden shift in political ideology after decades of supporting to the dems. The stubbornness, the irrational, baseless, easily disprovable yet deep seated 'beliefs,' the mood swings, the confusion, the paranoia about 'outsiders,' the tweeting at all hours of the night / morning, repeating verbatim things he's heard on the news, but drawing vastly different conclusions from it, the refusal to bring new people into his select 'circles' or to be followed regularly by the press pool. The rage when someone even loosely questions his account of situations, this one is dangerous.

    A family as wealthy as his, with such expansive business interests / ventures would have to insulate him completely to protect his and the businesses best interests. Becoming president offers a reasonable explanation for him shifting to his family his entire stake in those ventures, but there may be more to that than many realize.

    Had he made that move as a private citizen, there would have been immediate repercussions, as president, it seems totally natural.

    Something I overlooked before... It is also worth noting that dementia isn't a formal diagnosis in the same manner as a disease per se. It is the presenting of 4 or more symptoms in a list of 12 (I think it's 12) total.

    I hope he doesn't have dementia because that would mean that he wouldn't have to face any criminal charges. I was thinking that when Trump left the room before he signed that last executive order was another sign that something isn't right. Usually he seems delighted to be signing them and he makes a big production about it but this time he just left the room before signing.     I'm surprised the left want to use this kind of smear. If Trump is a moron, then the left just got its ass kicked by a moron.

    If the left can't even win a political game of chess with a moron, when the entire establishment is behind them, what does that say about the left?

    By such smear campaigns the left only belittles itself. A better propaganda strategy would be to claim he's an evil genius.

  • It's no smear. It's a fact. Unfortunately the cult of Trump is so embedded in his orange butt, they can't and won't accept facts when they are staring them in the face.

    I think the Trumpanzees call these "Alt-Facts" which is a re-imagining of the word "LIE"

    Another example of facts being ignored is that Trump as taken 14 golf excursions during his 10 weeks of reign, his ties to Russia which are becoming more and more exposed, his failed attempt at his ridiculous healthcare plan which got the boot by his own party, his ridiculous plan for a border wall which recently had another setback when it was discovered by the bone-heads in charge that more than 800 miles of US border is alongside the Rio Grande River and that the wall would need to be built on the embankment essentially giving the river to Mexico, and his Muslim ban which got struck down twice. 

    And let's talk about excessive tax payer money spent.  Aside from Trump's infrequent trips to NYC to visit his wife when he remembers her and the money that costs, the US tax payer is dolling out $127,000 per a day ($46,355,000 annually) for Baron's school and Melania's wish to live like a princess away from her feeble husband.

    Trump is not an evil Genius...He's a mentally ill, old man surrounded by Racists,  Fascists, ass-kissers, and amateurs
