    At Walmart, I try to jump up to get at the top shelf items. I'm 5'10" so I can reach almost everything. Sometimes I look around for a tool to knock stuff down.(such as a broom handle)

    I am tall too but if I can't reach something, I ask my 6'2 son to get it for me.

    at home i just dont put anything on the top shelf in the first place, if im at a store i'll ask a worker to get it for me, I had started this job handing out samples and when they sent someone to train me she noticed i was short and wouldnt be able to reach the shelves, think she told the company cause they wouldnt let me do it after that, i think its descrimination, i couldve asked a worker for help

  • Dear LuluMom,

    This will answer a Q you didn't even know you were asking...because the whole bank of top shelves in my kitchen is seven feet off ground.

    So first of all yes, I do need a stool and then still have difficulty. BUT, this is a tax credit apt. complex built specifically or old folks (age 62+) and handicapped!

    Old age in our culture is strangely neglected - even though old folks are technically the reason for this complex, in actuality the investors are the priority, the needs of (highly aggressive) management come second, and the only one I have ever seen with concern for elderly tenants is our town's fire marshall!

    * * *
    So not only my kitchen but neighbors too, I reach for them; also I may carry their garbage down this two story walk-up, and their groceries up...it can be heart-rending to see them struggle with multiple unsafe conditions, and SO unnecessary.

    That depends on how high the top shelf is. A lot of times I can just stand on my toes to reach. It helps that I have long fingers, too. Sometimes I could grab something with my fingertips and pull it a little closer so I can get a hold of it. This post was edited by Patchouli at April 3, 2017 5:40 AM MDT

  • Nope, but my wife does she either needs help or uses a stool. She's way too short.

  • I'm a short person so I sometimes need a step stool to get things from the middle shelf, the top shelf is completely off limits.  My husband is almost a foot taller than me and he loves to sing that song about short people.

  • I'm 6'5 with broad shoulders and a long wing span. I can reach items on the back of the top shelves. Tall privilege!!

  • omg, maybe we should feed ALL our boys Mountain Dew, here!

    ...I have not actually obtained the Cheerwine yet, but I called the Fred Meyer in Olympia and they typically do carry it, just running short now and waiting on the new shipment.

  • I'm the shortest in my circle of friends so I try to bring my tall friends with me when I go shopping. :P

    I need a step stool to get ON a step stool!! Lol NONE of my family (hubby, kids and grandkids) are taller than 5'2.  So everyone needs a step stool in my home.
