How can anyone possibly defend disco music?

It's by far the worst kind of music as a whole and it's lasting influence on pop music has been nothing but a travesty.    From the sound to the style it's tacky and an assault  on the senses and good taste.

It's a clear sign that mixing Quaaludes and cocaine is a very bad idea.

No!  I meant it cannot be done.  I read your question wrong...as "can anyone" rather than "how can anyone". This post was edited by Bozette at April 3, 2017 4:37 PM MDT

  • Your assessment may be true.  However it does not have the misogyny, hatred, and general degradation or rap.

  • Hip hop has way more value of expression than disco.  At least there is some  good and creative rap.

It certainly is way better than rap. You, my unknown friend, are probably the only person that feels this way. Usually, people born in the era, love disco music. Disco is universal. This post was edited by Zack at April 5, 2017 1:44 AM MDT

  • It's vacuous and generic.  It's so formulated, shallow, and uncreative.

  • Sure.  But it is profitable, which is a major goal of entertainment.

I love disco. It was great dancing music and if you listen closely you can hear that it was the mother of hip-hop. Disco was clear, clean, great beat. Our local oldies station has been playing a lot of it lately...along with a lot of Motown, which I grew up with.

  • Did a lot of Quaaludes and cocaine huh?

You're right though it did influence rap and modern pop music and that's part of it's awful legacy on music. This post was edited by Benedict Arnold at April 3, 2017 1:44 PM MDT
