Discussion»Questions»answerMug Members» I ask questions on Answermug because doing so makes me happy. I don't do what doesn't. What makes YOU happy? Why?
Drinking tea in the bath makes me happy... it seems decadent, like I shouldn't have time for that, especially on a daily basis.. so that's why I do it :)
Tea, wine, or beer. Especially in one of those spa type tubs with the massaging jets. The right kind of music in the background.... I really like the way you think
That sounds awesome Addb!. Do you also use bath oils/salts and possibly incense and candles? Now there a pampering I could enjoy! Thank you for your reply and Happy Friday to thee! :)
I love curries but have never tasted pickled eggs. I've seen them in brine in large jars in delis but never tried one. Thank you for your reply whistle and Happy Friday! :)
Teaching my two and a half year old grandson the ABCs and how to tell the difference between an O and a zero. Why? Because its wonderful to see how his little brain soaks up all this new information like a wanted sponge.
I can so relate! When my son (now 51) was a little boy I taught him the alphabet and how to read. He soaked everything up very quickly. As a result he got his library card at the age of 3. I think all kids could read before they go to school but it takes parents to spend time with them and teach them! Enjoyment of reading is the gateway to good grades in school and a good career. It opens the world to kids. I pity those children whose parents don't read. I do. SIGH. Thank you for our reply cp and Happy Friday to thee! :)
I think being kind is part of the three-legged stool of life. Be kind, be helpful, be useful. From kindness comes many good things. Kind people do not lie to or harm others. Thank you for your answer Jane. KIND is quite possibly my favorite word. My father was a very KIND man. My son is too. Jim is the kindest person I have ever known. Kind goes a long way to facilitate all good things. Happy Friday.
The "five Cs" - Cuddles, (censored), coffee, cricket and Cooper's.
I also enjoy telling painfully awful jokes, reading sci-fi and fantasy, playing music, singing opera (just getting back into that again, I'm in the chorus for a local production of La Boheme) and playing with my grandson.
"Why" is something I can't really answer, enjoyment is entirely subjective. I love being part of a crowd, some are claustrophobes or prefer solitude. I'm practically addicted to coffee, others can't stand caffeine. I enjoy Cooper's beer, are you a beer drinker? (The real stuff, not the alcoholized dishwater that passes for beer in the US). I'm a show pony who revels in the limelight, others are shy or get stage fright. We're all different.
Thank you for that 3-dimensional reply my friend. Since I live in the US I guess I have only tasted alcoholized dishwater. The only beer I ever tasted that I disliked was very dark in color and thick. It tasted AWFUL! I enjoy beers like Raspberry wheat or Orange wheat. So you're an OPERA singer? That's awesome! I sing around the house all the time. Jim loves it. He knows I sing when I'm happy. Our cat Tigger? Well he tolerates it. I'm basically a loner not a socializer. My main social outlet is Answermug. I arrive when I want, stay as long as I want, ask what I want, talk with whom I want, ignore whom I want and leave when I want and I don't have to answer to anybody. Now that's heaven to me! I am less apt to get claustrophobic than agoraphobic. I do not like large crowds. I am always by an exit. I enjoy my two cups of coffee every morning. No more, no less. I am a shadows/sidelines person. I do not like the spotlight. I am not interested in being on display in front of the camera. I like my privacy and would despise any form of fame. I'd rather be behind the scenes directing. Different strokes! :)
You can get imported beers in the States. Steer clear of Foster's, we export that one because it's so bad the locals won't drink it. As you're evidently not in favour of dark ales I'd suggest a German or Czech Pilsener to give your taste buds a treat. I'm told there are some American craft beers which are okay but craft beers aren't generally exported so I've never had the opportunity to sample one. The commercially available ones I have tried (Budweiser, Miller's, Coor's, Sam Adams) have been tasteless. They adulterate the wort with adjuncts, the result is slop.
Adjunct. "Something added to a thing but not essential to it". I've never heard of adjunct being used in relation to food or drink. Now I have. What beer is your favorite Sbf? When Old School lived in California he took Jim and me out for lunch where they had a large variety of beers. I don't remember it as being a brew pub necessarily. Anyway we had killer hamburgers, sweet potato fries and some delicious beer. Old School is or was a great fan of beer. In fact I think he traveled to Oregon once for a beer festival! Colorado is a state that loves beer too and when Rich lived there and Old School visited there were a lots of places that featured beer. There are probably a zillion (exaggeration) beers at local markets And in Hemet we have a "Liquor store" that is the largest one I've EVER in my life been in. You could spend HOURS going up and down the aisles looking at them all and the more choices there are the more confused I get. So "stay away from Foster's!" Check. What German or Czech brands are there? I guess we could just ask the person who works there for German or Czech beers. When Rich was in Massachusetts for a short while years ago we visited him and he took us to a local brew pub. Of course Samuel Adams beers are very big in Massachusetts and were featured there and because I don't know any better (or my palate doesn't) I LOVED all of them! We had some taster samples. Thanks for the info and Happy Saturday m'dear! Hey. M'dear rhymes with beer! Be of good cheer. Oh. What is near beer? Non-alcoholic pretend beer?
My own personal fave is Cooper's 62 Pilsner, although I'm also partial to Thomas Cooper's Selection Artisan Reserve. The German König and Czech Urquell are decent beers as well - the trick is Saaz hops. Modern clear beer was invented in Bohemia, which once had its capital in the Czech city of Plzen - hence "Pilsener". (Beer has been around since Sargon was king of Sumeria a thousand years before the rise of Egypt, but it was dark, cloudy and contained no hops. It would have had a very short shelf life, been sweetish and had an after-taste of phenyle, which by modern standards would have had it listed as undrinkable).
You've almost certainly sang the Christmas carol "Good King Wenceslaus", but do you know why he was considered "Good"? Wenceslaus II was King of Bohemia (and late in his reign, king of Poland and in a case of the tail wagging the dog, of Hungary as well), travelled to Rome in the 13th century and convinced Pope Boniface VIII to revoke the Church's ban on the secular brewing of beer. On his return to his kingdom, he was hailed a hero and on his death they made a saint out of him.
Thank you for such a superduperly informative reply Sbf. I just wrote down "Cooper 62 Pilsner", "Thomas Cooper's Selection Artisan Reserve", "Konig" and "Urquell" so when Jim and I go to that Hemet Liquor Palace the next time I will have specific things to seek. Of course I have sung about the Good King and of course I didn't know he really was a real person much less King of Bohemia much less a strong supporter of beer. Now I do thanks to you. I have seen "Bohemian Girl" beer. Or Bohemia Girl. Now I know why she is Bohemian! Boy the stuff you can learn on Answermug from Answermuggers just by asking a really simple question! Amazing I say! :):):)
Good luck finding Artisan Reserve, that one is rare even here (Cooper's brewery is twenty minutes away from my home and I can't always get it). I don't know if 62 is exported in bulk but if your liquor store is truly huge then it's possible. König and Urquell shouldn't be a problem.
