How come the journey back from somewhere is always so much less stressful and easier?

Took daughter to her prom yesterday... I was soooo stressed, traffic was awful but that wasn't my main stressor.. I hate going anywhere I don't know.. I always worry about not being able to find the place when i get there, overshooting and having to go miles to turn back, getting lost and turning down the wrong road, ending up at a dead end etc. It's happened... lots...

The journey home is always a breeze, even if I don't know the way... yet logically it's the same journey... just in reverse...

10 hours is quick. Perhaps you had your Wonder Woman costume on?

Obviously you are afraid of the unknown and once it is KNOWN you are golden.

My mom was the same way.  It got so she would NOT go anywhere she didn't know.  Would not do it, so therefore, she knew how to go less and less places.

Please don't turn into my mom.  For your sake.  GPS is your friend.

  • Your description answers the question. Going to the unknown is uncomfortable.  Returning to the known is reassuring.
