Brits...do you go into mourning on the fourth of July?

I am part English I am told, does that count?

I hate the 4th.  I always get depression around this time of year.  I have bad things happen a lot around this time of year.  But that was yesterday's thoughts.  I will act as if this one will be fine.  (it never works)

With the current state of affairs in this country, they're probably glad to be rid of us. Trump would be busy trying to evict the Queen from Buckingham Palace so he could make it into a hotel.

My great grandparents came from England to become farmers and bask in the freedom of this land. They musta been basking in the bedroom,too. They had 8 kids including my grandfather. 

It's a significant date for Americans, not the British. The Brits had 1/3 of the world, and the US was just a slice of a very large pie. No modern-day British person is going give a cr@p about an empire loss from the 18th Century. 

I just never think about it, unless someone reminds me. It is just a date with absolutely no significance.
I will add that I once heard a story about an American, living and working in Britain, who couldn't believe we didn't celebrate independence day!?!?

I suspect most of us hardly notice it, but those who do, don't bother about it. 

We've had a year or two to get over it. Might be more concerned if Scotland declared independence.
