Do you believe that anyone posts questions on AnswerMug with absolutely no expectation, hope or desire whatsoever of even one answer?

A particularly smug member here decried the reasons for posting numerous poorly-received questions on a daily basis by using the excuse that it doesn't matter whether anyone answers or not.  It was the "I post questions because it appeals to me" defense.

I wasn't expecting, hoping for or desiring any answers; I only posted this for me.

(Let's roll our eyes in unison.)

  • I think it's entirely possible that ELEPHANT IN THE ROOM doesn't expect any answers. Tchaikovsky continued to write more operas even though he knew most of them were poorly received. He wrote them because he had to get them out. Woody Allen has said something similar about his movies. Now I'm not implying that ELDERLY ELEPHANT IN THE ROOM is as creative as Allen or Tchaikovsky, but some people who see something as their "art" may not give one whit about how well-received it is. They do it because they love it. And every now and then they have a hit.  This post was edited by Benedict Arnold at July 4, 2017 5:16 PM MDT

Art?  Well, I'm refraining from posting my emoji laughing with tears.  (I think emoji is the correct word)

All of the classical composers wrote some unmitigated crap among their masterpieces. Even Mozart did "Lick Me in the A$$" as a joke. This post was edited by Slartibartfast at July 4, 2017 5:18 PM MDT
