Anyone else had a mega stressful day?

Daughter came to college for a taster day... it didn't go terribly well, she was overwhelmed.... and after I was able to talk to her it seems that the bullying she has experienced for 4 years at the school she has just left has left more of a mark and more of a vulnerability than I thought...

I guess my thoughts right now are surrounding those who say it's ok to bully and belittle those they perceive weaker than themselves... they say dumb things like well they need to toughen up... and they almost make out that the bullies are doing people a favour... I'd so love to slap some of those bullies right now and maybe slap those who have this horrible thinking too for good measure.

Daughter went back and was able to enjoy the rest of the day... and she should be proud of that but from where I sit I truly cannot see one single positive about bullying.. if you ask me all it's done is hurt her and cause her a lot of misery and, it seems potentially long term effects.

I'm so sorry and agree that bullying is an awful thing with very strong potential for long term consequences.

Hope your daughter does well at college and continues to grow both in strength and self esteem. Has she had any therapy? Sometimes that can help to work out issues and move on in a positive direction.

I hope she manages to get into this college... and I think ultimately it will be good for her and will help her begin to build trust again... it's not 100% guaranteed she will get in and she had a scary wobble today where I thought she wouldn't make it at this college, and there are NO other options for her really...

She hasn't had any therapy as yet.. she tried happiness therapy, but she thought some of it was utterly silly, like she was told that reframing should into could would make a big difference.. but she hasn't had any other therapy... there are counsellors at the college...so if she goes there then maybe...

Sounds like a skilled therapist could be of great benefit.

Hope it's a smaller college with more access to individual attention. Seems that would give her a better opportunity to flourish.

I'm unhappy your daughter experienced bullying. What you described is, indeed, the so-called "positives" of bullying - - being on the receiving end of bullying - - "It's good for the person! It's the real world! Get used to it! What doesn't kill you makes you stronger!"

Well, let your daughter know there is at least one person in the world (yes, me) who would rather live by the rule considered "Golden" --

"Do unto others as you would have them do unto you."

THAT'S the real world, too. The world I'm a part of.

Enough of my sermon. I'll stop now.
    :)

Oh --  my day has been going OK -- I'll take it!

I have had a mega-stressful 2 years.  It has aged me so much, I doubt if even Sonobello could help me now.

(It's a facelift place here in the USA)

My grandson is smallish, thin, and part Mexican. You would think the bullies would rush in. No, he wears his local boxing club jacket and no one messes with him. Although he be small, he be mighty. I've seen him box in the ring, and he is quick.

No, bullying has no positive attributes.  Having said that, I'm wondering why, if you knew she's been bullied in the same school for the past four years, you didn't enroll her in a different school?
