Discussion»Questions»Human Behavior» Many folks are very good at doing their jobs. Some are also great leaders. Do you have a favorite boss? Why was he/she your favorite?
Any boss who "gets his/her hands dirty" is always a fave of mine, I've had a few. One who came up through the ranks, doing the job they're bossing now and still does occasionally when they're short-handed.
I've really only had a couple of lemons. My favorite boss of all time though was the smartest. He pushed me to do things I didn't know I could do. I'd get angry as he** at him for doing that but in retrospect everything he did was right! He forced me to figure things out on my own without him holding my hand and I learned I was very good at doing that and that's why I ended up being an Internal Auditor! I will always remember him with gratitude and appreciation. Thank you for your reply Sbf! :)
My division Officer on my second ship said: "Chiefs, you know what you are doing. I have to make rounds of all work spaces and hang out when their is an emergency. If you need me I'll be in my stateroom." We told him no problem.
Nothing worse than having a boss who hovers over you constantly. Your guy sounds like an ideal boss. There if you need him but stays out of your hair when you don't! Thanks for sharing that with us Ele! :)
I have been working for the same boss for more than 26 years. He is by far the best boss I've had because he doesn't boss me around. He gives me a task and then leaves me to do it. He doesn't care how I get to the end result, only that I do. He has always treated me fairly and as a colleague rather than as an employee. He has let his client know that in his absence, they can call me directly if they need to get something done so long as I don't practice law. :) When he got married to his second wife, they got married in Portofino, Italy and he paid for me and a guest to spend a week there for the wedding and the other activities he had planned. All we paid for were the souvenirs we brought back.
Oh Spunky that makes me so happy for you! Having a boss who values you and appreciates you and trusts you like that? Who also treats you like a friend. I mean c'mon! A week in Italy on his dime so you could share in his joyful time! Thank you for letting us know that there really are superduper people like that! Years ago I had worked with a gal who once had a boss like that as well. It's nice to know there are at least TWO people who had one! :)
He is a rare find and the reason why I am still working, although it's only three days a week. I was going to retire completely and he looked so forlorn that I said if they would allow me to work part-time, I would stay. They agreed and it's a win-win for all of us.
Well you're a very nifty person so I'm glad you find yourself in a honeypot situation. It's nice when everyone wins! Thank you for your reply Spunky! :)
